Hi,

I've switched to OpenVFX after many years with MyVFX so that I can use Sipdroid with a number of Android devices around the house. No big problems there.
But after two days of fighting with our Linksys SPA 2102, I'm still unable to make calls.
I wasn't expecting it would be that hard to configure a SIP device, my question though is: why doesn't WorldxChange provide official configuration settings that NZ user can just enter into their devices?
You do support this device, you've been doing it for years, what's so special that you keep those settings secrets? Is it a competitive advantage? You're making the lives of your existing customers hard and preventing other customers to come on board.

By the way I've done my homework, I've started from SBiddle's post: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sbiddle/7208
I've searched on Geekzone, http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=76641

I feel stupid at trying different settings without understanding what they mean, I'm sure I'll have learnt something by the end of this, currently though I experience utter frustration.
I don't want to take anymore time from your support staff, just provide those settings and I'll carry on being a happy customer.

Thank you
Emanuele

Looks like the profile rule link on the provisioning tab http://voipzone.co.nz/spaconfig.cfg is dead.

If you are using that it could be your problem.

You could try and paste the contents of the file listed in that post into notepad and save as spaconfig.cfg then use that file to configure your ata.

Hi, thanks

I'm aware the link is broken. That's not a big issue, I can easily host the file myself.
I've copied all the settings and they didn't work. SBiddle himself has written here there are problems with those settings, not sure what problems.

Hi ZigiloNZ,

It's a matter of liability, with the supported service, the configuration has been thoroughly tested and WxC feels confident that there will be no problems with the service.

With OpenVFX, the configuration is left to the user, which means the user is also responsible for their own security and configuration issues.

What exactly are the issues you are encountering at the moment ? Can you not make any calls out ?
Are you trying to register multiple devices under one phone number ?

I still don't understand but that's probably just me.
There's a difference between saying: here's the configuration, you do it and not providing any clue.

I can't make calls from a phone connect to the Linksys SPA2102.
I can receive calls alright.
Yes, multiple devices are using the same OpenVFX line, other than the SPA, Sipdroid running on an android device. I can make calls using Sipdroid.

I've posted screenshots of my configuration below (sorry, I should stitched them into one image alone).

So just to be super clear :)

You can make calls out from the SIPdroid to the world.
You can't make calls out from the SPA2102 to the world.

You can receive calls on both devices ok ?

What happens when you try and make an outbound call on the SPA2102?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

As soon as I press a digit, the phone sounds busy (several beeps)

Grudge has pointed out that I haven't defined a calling plan.
That sounds like the problem, I'll have to wait until I go home tonight before I try.
I'll post the results here.

Thank you guys, and sorry for the rant

The other thing would be that their calling plan etc are part of their Proprietary Information that give them their advantage. If they were to release it then other operators could just use it for their own setups.

Another question could be, if you have a supported device and don't know how to configure it yourself, why are you using open vfx?
If it's to learn stuff, well, you learn better this way rather than just being given the answers :-)

Edit - helps if you read the post fully first, rather than rush to not be pipped at the post :-) I see the reasons.

When I understand what a calling plan is, perhaps I'll agree with you

I've had a 2nd SIP line attached to the same SPA box for years (an Italian number, they're free to have).
No configuration was required then. But now I understand the whole Region settings tab was hidden from me and configured by WxC

Read it twice and didn't get pipped, should I read it again?

PS I was inspired to get OpenVFX by this product:
http://www.iinet.net.au/budii/

Also this new Orcon product is along these lines: http://www.orcon.net.nz/geniusgo

with the difference that having a standard such as SIP makes it possible to have more robust clients

I was meaning that I didn't read the post fully to see the reason you were doing this in my rush to reply before someone else did...

LOL, you've forgiven. Fellow geekzoners will also understand that having a wife on your neck when you're trying to sort out the family phone doesn't make learning new things any easier.
Luckily her mother is away, she's the one who calls ;-)
