I am renting and landlord needs to know what the installation process involves, telstra help desk couldn't give me any info on the NTE box that they install so could somebody please measure there box (just need an approximate size) or even better could somebody take a photo of the NTE on the outside of their house and upload it.. it would be much appreciated.. also does the cable from the power pole go straight to the box.. how high up do they put the NTE?

We had ours intalled a couple of years ago - they attached the cable to the barge board next to the Telecom cable, pulled off the twisted pair and that went through the hole to the inside with the Telecom cable.

Then the coax they routed into the guttering, where it went around to the side of the house to an inconspicuous spot and down to ground level where they put the box (about 150*100*20 or 30 from memory). We didn't need cable at the time but they insisted on terminating it anyway, so that they didn't have to come back and do it later. Then when when we got it connected last year they drilled a hole through the weatherboard which they poked the coax through and then hooked it up to the socket they installed inside.

The most noticeable thing about the whole setup is the extra cable running across from the street.

well called them up and booked an install, they needed to do some work before they could hook me up and said there would be a two week delay and gave me the first months access free which was all good.. however contractor rang me this morning and said the job is now back with telstra because they need to do some marketing to the back sections of the property (theres about 5 units) and there will be a longer delay.. I am hoping like @#!$ they don't come back and say sorry its not economical enough for us to do just one place. also they said the cable needs to go through another section to get to mine so they have to get consent from the neighbours as well.

Good luck then.

When we signed up a year ago the waiting time was four weeks, then the installer found he couldn't do it - there was no access point (or whatever the term is) on our pole, and the networks people had to sort that out. Our original phone line had an extra hop to the next pole, but he said they weren't allowed to do that anymore.

After an hour of waiting for the phone to be answered (at 11am on a saturday morning) I was really impressed with the service, they offered free install (expected) free modem (expected) free no terms contract (not expected) and free months internet because of a two week delay which I was sort of expecting to wait that long anyway.. now hopefully they can get it installed!
