Does anyone know if it is likley the Nokia N73 will drop in price any time soon? The guy at Mobile Phone Solutions here in Wellington seemed to think it might as they dropped the price of the N80 last month.

I'm looking at getting one but dont want to buy one and have it drop $300 a week later

Jeffthechef: Not anytime soon.

What makes you say this? They recently dropped the prices on a number of N-Series phones. The N80 was $1399, and they dropped that to $1099, N70 dropped from $799 to $599, N91 dropped to $999 from like $1299 or something.

I really really like the N70 and N73 however I dont think I would be fully satisfied with the N70 as it is lacking in a few think (miniSD card, good camera, style) but at nearly twice the price I dont know if I can justify the N73

I say this because I know.

The N73 is a little bit newer than the N91 and N80.

How do you like your N73?

They are on special this week at the vodafone store - $999 incl. 1GB Mini SD

I've had mine for just over a week now and very happy with it. I paid $1099 and had a 2GB miniSD card already so i'm only slightly gutted about the special.

I have an N73 and have mixed feelings about it:
- Web browser is awesome - first browser that I can really use on a handset. I can browse news.bbc.co.uk in its full graphical glory with no problems
- gmail client works great (but then it does on lots of phones)
- Great screen (shame it's not as high res as the n80, but it is physically bigger)
- Good camera 3.2mp makes for a passible general use camera (although no usable flash)

On the downside:
- Mine is really, really slow. I'm not sure if it's just mine or N73s in general, but it can take 5 seconds to wake up from sleep mode, it can take seconds for each button press to be registered, it can take 5-10 seconds to go into camera mode when you open the lens cover
- MP3 player works, but is so clunky to use, I just put my ipod in my other pocket.

On the whole, good, but slow. If anyone else has any experience with them I'd be interested to hear.

Agree with the slowness and I do find that the buttons are a little smaller than I would like, however I am getting used to them. I do tend to hit the End Call button alot when pressing 3, which of course saves my message to drafts and returns me to the standby screen. Battery time could be better, but then again there are not many high spec phones you can get more than 1-2 days battery out of these days anyway.

Overall im pretty chuffed with it.

I'm particularly interested in the camera on this phone, because its specifications lead me to believe that it's very close to being a feasible replacement for a stand-alone snapshot camera. Unfortunately I was extemely disappointed with the sample pictures shown on the product review at gsmarena.com because there was noticeable smearing of detail, colour bleeding, corner softness and barrel distortion, but when I looked at some samples on Flickr I discovered that a lot of people have taken very good photos on it at ISO100. This would suggest that the unit tested by gsmarena.com may have been an unrefined pre-production model.

Unfortunately samples on Flickr taken at ISO320 and above do still show considerable colour bleeding and noise reduction artifacts but this is probably something that we have to expect until camera phone manufacturers are able to produce a very small sensor with very good image noise control.

I'd be interested to hear any feedback on this from owners of the N73.

While it does take a good photo I dont consider it a replacement for my 5.1MP Cybershot. Also just like my 6265, photos taken in low light tend to come out rather grainy, partially as a result of not having a real flash on this camera.

Thanks for that. It's a bit disappointing that the camera on the N73 would not really satisfy my needs, but I bought a good ultra-compact camera last year so carrying two seperate devices isn't really a big deal.

I think the N73 is likely to be my next phone but I will hold off for at least another six months as the current $1000 price tag is outside of my budget and I'm pretty happy with my 6630 anyway.

Have either of you compared the near identically spec'd Sony Ericsson K800i (or other phones) with the N73? pros? cons?

I was thinking of getting a K800i or N73 soon, leaning towards the SE.

After the episode of the T68i and the dicking around and lame excuses and buckpassing I had from vodafone and sony ericsson and MFR I will not ever buy another SE phone,

Yet when I had a play on a mates new nokia 70-something (the one with a slidey camera thing on the back) it reminded me of the T68 with all the latency with the input. My how things go around.

I haven't really looked at the K800 in detail but I'm inclined to dismiss it because:
-I like the S60 operating system.
-As wibble points out, the N73 has an excellent web browser.
-I currently have a 6630 and would like to continue to use my existing headset, car charger, etc.

The K800's xenon flash is definitely a point in its favour, but I don't think it would be enough to sway me considering that it looks as if I'll continue to use my 'real' camera far more frequently than taking photos on my phone anyway.

Does the 6680 have one of the new smaller nokia charger ports? Because the N73 does. Your in Wellington right Alasta? Head on down to the Vodafone retail shop on Lambton and have a play with the live N73 they have their. I went in with my 6265 before I got my N73 and put my miniSD card in, took some pics and then went home and reviewed them on the PC.
