I have been trialing the VFX service for the last week or so and have had mixed results.  I am using WAG54GP2 with QOS and full speed ADSL with download around 2.7Mb and upload 470kb.  Sometimes the VFX service works really well, other times the person on the receiving end only hears parts of words so there are a lot of drop outs.  This does not seem to relate to any time of day.  It can be a problem first thing in the morning but work fine late afternoon when you would expect network traffic to be the heaviest.

I run a small network with a mail server but there is not any great uploading or downloading going on at the problem times and QOS should handle it anyway.

I talked to Nick at Xnet who was very helpful as everyone at Xnet has been, great service guys!!!  Nick suggested a few things such as the radio phone I was using.  I tried a chord phone but had the same problem.

I am not quite sure where to go from here. I would like ot use the service as the main home line but it just seems to flaky at the moment.  Any ideas on what might be causing the drop outs?

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the info, yes I have a few and there could be a couple of reasons that we will need to look at, if you could let us know as soon as you get one of these call with a 24hour period and we can do a little more indepth looking at the call and take a look at the info we recieve and then go from there.

Hi Andy

Just had a couple of chats with my support guys, the good news is that the issue appears to be purely your DSL itself so nothing to do with VFX , we can work with that and Nic will actually be looking at what we can see and do to improve your connection.

Hi Maverick

Could you elaborate about my "problem" DSL, what part of it could be a problem?

Cheers
Andy

Hello Andy,

My bad here i got you confused with another VFX customer and put Phil down the wrong path in his fault finding attempts. Your connection is not the cause. What we do need however is notification within 24hrs of the fault presenting itself again so we can pull the call record and find the issue affecting your service. I'm at work mon-fri 8-4pm and sat on 10-4pm, so if you call in ask for me and have the time and date of the call i can then let phil know.

I've been having the same problem.  Tonight I made a call to a mobile number and after about 30 seconds, the line just went completely silent and the caller on the other end was disconnected.  I phoned back, same deal, so ended up calling again from my mobile.  The person I was speaking to said that I kept cutting out up until the call was disconnected.  Have left a message for support with all the details, so hopefully it can be sorted.

On the plus side, my Telecom number was ported over to VFX today.  I can't believe how smoothly it all went... nice job WxC!

I took a look at both of the calls to the Mobile you dialled, now I see you used speed dial, this shouldn't make a difference but it is something I will look at, what the diagram shows below with IP addressing removed is that your device is located on the Left hand side if you look at the time on the right at 21:21:57 when the call is answered we send what is called a 200 Ok whick tells the far end that the call has been answered, now what seems to be happening here is that your device is not responding to this for some reason, we actually see no response so the system tries a few more times then when no response recived after a certain time it tears the call down, so that is the problem...now to solve it :), the issue I am thinking could be related to the firewall somehow closing the connection and not allowing the message through to your PAP2T, so I will look at that first up, secondly can you tell me if this happens on your speed dial calls ? and has this just started happening

Hi Guys

Since commenting on the break up problem with my VFX line, it hasn't faulted once.  Which is great!

Hopefully if it is going to fault it will do it now that I say it is working fineSmile

Anyway guys, great service all round from your support and Xnet.

Any news yet on when number portability will really actually finally realistically happen?

Cheers
Andy
