I only have One computer connected..Also I have a a Linksys spa 2102 linked in for VFX

Hello Warrick,

The amber lights are the norm for your router and indicate that PPP has been established. I have gone over the limited manual we have on file for your device and unfortunately cannot find the MTU and modulation fields. I'm not sure if the "advanced setup" on the home page will list these settings or if they can be found under the "wan" settings. I would however suggest changing the modulation to G.dmt (alot of routers use multimode by default) and decreasing the MTU from the default 1492 down to 1400. This has brought quite a few unstable modem/routers back to stability for me, having said that the bulk of modem/routers i have done this on are of the DLink variety and generally the ZyXel brand is pretty reliable. Also if you have any other equipment sharing the jack point i would suggest removing it (and as a test remove any device connected to a wall jack in the house including filters/sky), then connecting the router directly to the wall jack via a single cord to see if the stability issue still presents itself.

Thanks Nic for your help. Is the mode and NAT set correctly ? The internet only seems to drop off(and only off for a few seconds) at peak times....but I have
noticed my speeds are a lot better.
I am on the Massey exchange.

Thanks

Hello Warrick,

Yes those 2 settings look fine, are the drop outs continuous over the peak period or is it more like 1 or 2 times an evening?  If your ISP is us i can pull your logs and have a look at the disconnection records. If you are with a different ISP i would suggest calling them and asking if they see alot of "user request" or "port error" disconnection records, this indicates a router stability issue as opposed to a exchange congestion issue.
