Something very weird happened to one of my work mates.
She received a very strange call from a blocked number this afternoon.
The person on the other end was a Vodafone customer support saying "Just trying to check the number".

All OK, apart from the fact the number in question has been with my mate for years.
It's originally a VF number subsequently ported to 2D.

What transpired was that Vodafone decided to sell someone a brand new SIM card with her active number on it. The SIM and number obviously failed to work.
Beats me how VF are able to do this?

Is there a register of issued and active numbers?
How doest this work with ported numbers?

Sometimes the odd number ported out can get recycled, We have a process in place to get these sorted quickly

It can happen for a number of reasons we get 1234567 number back cause the carrier that the number was on has advised in error the number has deactivated,

If a number ports to another carrier that carrier does not own that number forever, If it stops been used then the carrier needs to hand that number back to the owner carrier for that range,

Each example would need to be looked at as it's not always the same reason,

John.
Thanks for the reply.
None of what you said is the case.
The number IS active and allways has been.
The only fact is that it was ported away from VF to 2D.
We checked with 2D and there was no deactivation notices being sent to VF.

This isn't the only problem we are currently experiencing with SIM numbers from VF.
We are trying to get a single phone working and are now on our 3rd SIM from VF and still no luck.
Looks like you are having more problems than you are willing to admit.

You are speaking about to different things now! Talk about confuse the matter and add something else

Maybe the handset is actually the issue and not the SIM card, SIM standards are not controlled by Vodafone and not just used by Vodafone,

So you can speak with authority on behalf of 2Degree's that they didn't make an error?

Not sure why I need to answer any questions in regards to this.
It's an obvious mistake on VF's part.
Especially after calls from VF about "you have this number by mistake" and same from an irate VF's customer saying the same.
So I'd refer you to my original questions:

Is there a register of issued and active numbers?
How doest this work with ported numbers?

PS. Yes I can guarantee that 2D have not made a mistake because the person this has happened to used to work as 2D and therefore has personal channels to verify this.

As above

If a Prepay number was recycled in error this would no longer be active on Vodafone now, As advised above we have a process in place in case this happens! Vodafone customer would be issued with a new Prepay connection pack which would have a new number

And as I have pointed out above also in my post I advised it can happen for a ' number ' of reasons,

I only provided one example that is most common, Never advised it was the case with the example you spoke about,

I don't even know the MSISDN to start with
