Has anyone managed to get a Sure Signal device working on the Telstra Clear cable network? Vodafone say it should work but they don't seem to be able to make it work for me. Anyone know what's the secret?

It's worked for about 6 months now - I had one I was testing for a while.

Hi John.  Yes, purchased on-line from Vodafone a couple of weeks ago, along with a phone (from the local shop).

Yes I've studied the help page. I must admit I don't fully understand it. First of all it says the Sure Signal must have a DHCP assigned IP address so it's routeable to over the internet.  My router has a static IP, which I understand it has to have on the cable network, so I'm not sure if I need to change something here.  Your techs said I should leave it a it is.

The router firewall settings are default, which I think is OK - everything out from the LAN is allowed, everything in to the LAN is blocked.

Then the guide says I should be using the Vodafone Public DNS servers.  I've always used the Telstra Clear servers. On the suggestion of your techs we tried the Vodafone ones.  That didn't make any difference, so we changed back to the Telstra Clear servers.

When the device is turned the power light is solid - the other two lights flash for 10 minutes then go out.  That suggests to me that it can't establish the VPN and gives up, but I'm only guessing.

We've tried waiting for several hours (days in fact) for it to do it's thing.

Obviously a lot of time with your help desk trying to sort this out, but no luck so far.  It would be great if you have any suggestions.

This means you need DHCP enabled on your local LAN. Your WAN connection on cable is a a static IP address.

Thanks for that suggestion. I have PM'd Steve directly - will post the outcome if we make any progress.

After an EPIC struggle with the help desk and two Sure Signal devices later, I finally struck someone who had it sorted in 5 minutes (and kindly sent me a replacement router for testing).  Then it was simple plug-and-play as advertised.  The whole household is switching to Vodafone mobiles!

I did a firmware upgrade on the original router and it also worked fine.  Nothing wrong with the Sure Signal.  Just disappointed we couldn't pin-point what was wrong with the original setup.

John & Steve: Thanks for the help.

So for the benefit of the community, what was the problem?

All I know is that the router firmware upgrade fixed it.  There's no visible changes in the settings before and after the upgrade, and no clue in rev notes for the firmware.  All I can suggest is that if the Sure Signal can't establish the VPN then a good thing to try is another router.

Hmmm. Similar thing here. I just plugged in a Sure Signal and I can see outgoing connections to the Vodafone IP address but after 45 minutes both indicators are now off.
