Hi

1. Yes to porting your number

2. No Time frame yet on Asterisk, it is still being worked on for interop tesing at present, there a re a few issues with it that we are working on, rest assured it is being worked on but sorry I can't give any official time to release yet.

I am in the process of rebuilding my Trixbox installation (Asterisk), with 2 x100p cards - one plugged into telecom wall jack, and one plugged into my Linksys WAG54GP2V2 VFX router.

Im initially going to do a very basic setup (Telecom line, VFX line, and one SIP trunk to a free provider), and fully document the steps, and post online for others who wish to follow.

Direct trunking into Asterisk would be cleaner and cheaper though - and will allow people to run asterisk in a VM if they dont need hardware cards (i.e. no Telecom POTS access). - cant wait.

Regarding your porting sbaird - mav, am i correct in saying that if a Telecom customer with adsl on that particular line wants to port, they would need to do something about their adsl first? (Disconnect, or move it to a different, connected, physical Telecom landline)

Bring on naked DSL!

Got cable, none of this ADSL stuff.

Thanks for the quick reply maverick,
But its asterisk is essential so i will have to look elsewhere at this time.

Any one got recommendations  of VOIP providers that support number porting and asterisk?

Great - you are all set as soon as you find a provider then.

iTalk can be used as an Asterisk trunk. Not sure about whether they support inwards porting or not. They have user forums though...

And like I said, VFX works with Asterisk if you are prepared to use either a POTS trunking card and an ATA (WAG54GP2V2, PAP2T etc), or an SPA3102 which will connect to VFX, and to Asterisk via SIP.

Not pretty, but it works.

Yes your right Tony, if you port your number all services under that number are relinguished ie DSL
