Hi

I am having trouble downloading this file http://github.com/cappuccino/cappuccino-base/zipball/v0.9.7-alpha1

I have tried last night and tonight with no success, if I RDP to my work computer it downloads fine on their Snap connection. So it appears to be something to do with my connection. I have tried rebooting my router but no success.

It always starts off fast and then slows down around the 2.5mb mark and then it just closes the connection.

It should be 11.7mb. It is downloading as part of a script, but in the browser it still cuts off part way through.

I am on Cable in Christchurch.

Just downloaded the file here, cable in Johnsonville:

Check your AV protection (is it running a transparent proxy, such as Avast that scans things as you download?) Are you using multi-threaded downloaders? Any other thing other than just plain browser?

Hi

I am using a Mac and don't have any AV installed. There should be no proxy that I know of, I have tried safari and it is the same as the script running curl on the command line. Running WireShark, I can see an TCP RST killing the connection that looks like it is coming from the remote server.

I was able to download it in Windows, but the speed wasn't consistent, it stalled for to 10 seconds multiple times.

Neither of my Macs will download it at all, which is a shame because I don't want to hack the shell script.

Hi Mike,

Strange one this, have you had any issues with other files on Git or otherwise? If you could give the faults team a bell on 0508 888 800, that'd be great, as they can try replicating the problem in their test environments & see if there's anything we can do on this end.

TC/VF cable has been a bit flaky for the past few weeks, especially for major sites like ebay/amazon which are slow or sometimes time out. I'm using a VPN a lot of the time, which bypasses VF and works much better. I may get a better router and tunnel my whole connection, or when I go to UFB try another ISP.

You could try a VPN.

You could try a VPN.

wget on cable in Wellington grabbed it fine as well. I wonder whether there is something hinky going on in the script (shellscript, perl, python?).

Timmmay, if cable is really that bad, make a move, cut the cord and go investigate a 'better' access technology/network, that VPN-solves-everything advice is about as emperically useful as offering up a goat sacrifice to the weather gods because last time the goat bit the big one it was fine for 3 days.

Repetition of some sort of dogma like this without reference to actual investigation of the problem (Might the way GIT downloads be interacting with specific aspect of cable technology as an example) only confuses people looking for guidance.

Might MikeR be better served by offering some suggestion on how to investigate the issue, rather than offering him a goat and sunscreen?

I also may be guilty of not helping out here, sorry Mike.

Cable is generally good, it's just gotten a bit flakey recently. What happens sometimes is CDN servers time out when I try to visit ebay, akami, so it's possibly DNS related if VF are sending to incorrect servers. I think the VPN fixes this as (guessing here) it either uses different DNS servers or the CDN server responds over VPN. I'll consider looking into it next time it happens.

It'd be nice to have better routing as well, for example to the GZ Cloudflare servers routing changes semi-regularly, but often goes to Australia by passing through Australia, bounces around in Asia, then goes back to Australia.
