Hello,

I pretty much always use my phone on the wifi network so my 'mobile data' is turned off in my settings

Recently (since the 20th sept), Vodafone has started charing me $1 / day for data usage.

Does anyone know of a similar recent issue? I've read old threads, but for me everything has been working fine for quite a while. I enable data when I need it or when I top up with the freebee data. Otherwise I turn it off.

Screenshot attached.

Is there a way to know what vodafone thinks I've been using, or/and Android might have sent/receive through 3G?

Thanks

That looks unacceptable. I would query it.
It may be better to disable the data connection completely when on Wifi. Just do it for a day or two to see if you billed.

I have always wondered if data is billed by vodafone when its sent from the network to your switched off device.

Ie, data that originates on the internet thats sent to your mobile phone IP address (despite it being switched off). Does this traffic pass through Vodafone billing system? Obviously the packets will be dropped and will not reach your device, but does this happen before or after the billing?
Its something that I have often thought of testing but never gotten around to it.

Something has to be using mobile data on the handset, I look after our Prepay charging platform for CS / PS data

DM me your mobile number I want to see if it has had a data connection up recently to the PS network

Not if mobile internet is disabled and this traffic is zero rated and only the PXT charged at a fixed rate

I just got my bill yesterday and Vodafone charged me $7 data.  I have data turned off.   So yesterday I also turned phone to GSM only and today checked and according to vodafone I have so far used 4 cents data.  How can it use data with data off and only on gsm.  Samsung Galaxy S4
Never used to be charged data and nothing in how I use my phone has changed

edit  I just chose download all activity and it shows 0.00MB   on all and yet still charged data fees

You can still use data on GSM only.

You will find as is the case with a lot of smartphones, that mobile data is not totally off, quite often the built in apps will ping home every once in a while even though data is turned off.

Why don't you try removing the APN's, or you can get vodafone to totally disable mobile data from their end, but this will also kill pixting.

I am not too worried as only $7 a month.  I have turned phone off now and will leave off for weekend and see what account shows. With phone turned off completely it obviously cant use data

My problem started after installing a certain app - Moves (http://moves-app.com/).
I've removed it and the problem stayed so I'm still not sure what's causing it and not sure how to debug this either as all the 'data monitoring' apps I found are not seeing any data going out on the mobile network.

I might try removing the APN next time to see if that changes anything...

Removing the APN won't do anything. I'm pretty sure you can still use anything for your APN now on VF but if it's not a valid APN (ie one known to the network) it'll just use the default www.vodafone.net.nz

I'm sure johnr will be able to confirm if this is still how things work.
