Hi all,

I'm a long time TCL cable customer but have been using MySky HD for TV for the last few years. I'm thinking of switching over to one of the new Vodafone bundles with the T-Box and I have a couple of questions...

* is the T-Box reliable now? I'm aware of the long-running threads here on T-Box issues but my impression is that things are better now. The MySky box has been completely reliable since the day we got it so I'm not keen to switch if there's going to be pain with the T-Box.

* are the Freeview and Sky versions of the T-Box completely different devices, or is it the same T-Box? i.e. if I went with the Freeview model, and then wanted to add Sky, could I do this with just a phone call to Vodafone?

Thanks!

stay with sky. T-box is hopeless trust me you will just be disapointed and they lock you into a 1 year contact.
I wish i could get back to MY-SKY it just works.

We have only had a T-Box for around six months, and I don't watch much myself, so my experience is limited. Lots of shortcomings but given how much I use it, I'm not bothered by them.

Relability: we've had no problems. A couple of freezes that required a power off/on.

User responsiveness: very poor. Amongst the worst I've seen in a consumer device in years. As in, push the Guide or Favs button and the channel guide takes 2.5 to 3 seconds to appear. A push of Page up or Page down in the guide, and it takes just over a second to respond.

I haven't used the T-box but I would recommend getting the normal sky decoder from vodafone. I believe you don't have to use the T-box....

I've had a TBox for over 2 years and I think it's OK now compared to how it was, still not as good as MySky but not bad.

To be fair, it was awful to start with so anything is an improvement but the triple bundle deal I'm on is great value so it'll do.

The T-Box was indescribably bad when it first came out but ours is fairly reliable now. It still has some slightly irritating personality quirks though, things like jamming when you get to the end of a recording and and All Blacks match is about to start. My personal favourite is when you quickly press multiple buttons on the remote to select a channel, and they arrive at the T-Box in a different order! (ie, pressing 51 comes out as 15)
But apart from that it's reasonably reliable these days. MySky is probably still the better product but I think the T-Box has got to the stage where I don't feel the need to warn people off it.
