Heard that TCL and Vodafone's mobile agreement ends in June. Seems this is a fallout from the unsightly Unplugged mess. This little spat has just got a whole lot more interesting.
The question is how is this going to affect 029 customers? Assume not a lot in the new number portability world.

Why bad article? Is Vodafone renewing the contract with TCL? Is 029 going to last as TCL after the current contract expires?

I think the agreement stated that Vodafone would acquire TCL's mobile customers after it ended. Because of number portability and the handsets are Vodafone branded I don't think there would be a problem. Would TCL want to renew the contract? It's good to offer a full solution to people (phone, mobile, internet, tv) but how much return do they actually make from mobile customers? and what is their share of the mobile market? I wouldn't think it would be significant.

I am a TCL mobile customer. I was a corporate mobile customer but when I left the job I decided to get another 029 number mainly because of 1) better number choices and 2) wanted one bill for all my telecom services. In fact I have just received my first bill with home telephone, TV, Internet and mobile on it. It comes to 9 pages!  And it isn't exactly the easiest thing to read, what with discounts, rebates etc. on it.

When the agreement ends I guess I will become a Vodafone customer and have a separate bill for mobile? At least now thanks to number portability I can retain my number since it's just so much of a hassle to change it again

TCL should bite the bullet and invest in a third mobile network. They just need enough coverage (not sure of the % ) to be able to roam on Vodafone's network where they don't have or ever plan to have coverage. Telecom and Vodafone are just ripping us off when it comes to mobile charges

Like you didn't see this coming, the deal has been far from rosy for meany years, Including Vodafone shafting TCL by "deactivating" all the "preactive" aka: not-yet-activated-with-no-expiry-date PrePay connection packs. (and my own 021 pack in the process, was that legal? I don't think so.)

Goodbye TCL, Hello Orcon. I will be awaiting at the sidelines to see how long this new deal lasts. I should try and nab myself a top number too! muwahahahaha

With number portability I don't really care I guess except that I will now eventually get two bills, one from Vodafone and one from TCL.  Interestingly up till recently if I dialled 777 from my TCL 029 phone there would be a message about "We are not able to recognise your phone # please enter it" So I would enter it and still it would say it's not valid.

Yesterday when I tried it recognised the calling number and gave me all my account details so perhaps they are slowly integrating TCL non corporate customers back into the Vodafone system
