Hi,

It seems recently a firmware update has been pushed out that stops the button on the top from working

I and a few other people have noticed this

Cant really figure out why they've done it though, Oh well

Hi,

Yes - the recent firmware update did indeed disable the standby button.

Email notifications were sent out to cable customers to advise; if you didn't receive one, I'd recommend you check that we have the correct notification email address for you, as usage notifications will be going to the same address.

As to why it was disabled; our experience was that the button tended to get accidentally pushed a lot, causing people frustration as they thought their modem was broken (and unnecessary calls to our Customer Help centers), while providing no significant advantage over simply turning the modem off or unplugging it.

Cheers
David

Thanks for that info.  I had been wondering as well.  Is it possible to re-enable the standby button?  Just an added physical security we use due to the high number of people we can see around us.

Just wondering how a stand-by button provides physical security? What are you trying to protect against?

Not currently possible, Best way around this is to look at switching the wireless router off during this time, Otherwise you can switch the Cable Modem (Surfboard) on and off at the power without much consequence.

There where a fairly significant amount of customers accidentally causing this issue and only one of the sub-models of the devices issued actually had this button, For this reason they where disabled to ensure this issue does not occur to any customer in future.
