Wow!  Makes my ADSL2 look very very sad.

Johnr - do you expect the speeds to stay high once more and more people move onto the 4G part of the network?

And Crystal Ball Gazing time - do you even think we will see mobile 4G plans with data caps that allow for replacement of landlines?  Like around 30-80GB?  And at a reasonable price?

Think what would happen if every single person drove to work and home on the same bit of road

Hence the 'crystal ball gazing' part - with the average NZ usage somewhere under 20GB for most Internet customers (that's from memory so I could be wrong) it seems possible at some point.  Also you only have just under 1/2 of 'every single person' on Vodafone, and  I am sure Vodafone are still building out/enhancing their network, so I thought is was a valid question.

Maybe in 10 years.

Australia is already facing significant congestion on their LTE networks. Wireless isn't, and never will be a replacement for fixed infrastructure. This applies in the home where wireless isn't a replace for Ethernet, and out of the home where 3G/4G isn't a replacement for copper or fibre. Wireless is a complementary technology.

If you look what what's happening in the industry NSN are working towards a future where dimensioning of networks allows LTE users could use 1GB per day of data and the network be able to cope. We're a long way from that at present.

Ooooh.  That's whippet quick.

JohnR - How many other handsets are capable of 150 Mbps now?
I think I saw the Xperia Z1 as well as the Note 3.  What else is due soon? (I can't find definitive speed specs on iPhone5s)

The upcoming Nexus 5 will, for sure. As far as I'm aware, the iphone 5s and the Galaxy S4 are both only Cat 3 (100/50). There is now a Cat4-capable S4 variant (Snapdragon 800 based), but I haven't seen any in NZ yet.

An official list of devices would be nice, though ;)
