We have our Motorola modem in the living room next to the TelstraClear tv box. These devices are connected via a Y-splitter behind the tv.

From the modem, we have connected a Belkin N300 wireless router. http://www.belkin.com/au/F9K1002-Belkin/p/P-F9K1002/ which gives very poor house coverage. We purchased a dual band range extender to try to fix this issue http://www.belkin.com/au/F9K1106-Belkin/p/P-F9K1106/

Both are up and working with password, etc...

About 1-3 times per day, the internet stops working. Wireless just completely stops. Sometimes it seems like just before it goes out, it starts getting really slow (but this may be our imagination). At a certain point it just dies, and the only way to fix it is to go unplug the modem and plug it back in. We do the same to the router too just to be safe, but I'm pretty sure it's the modem.

Has anyone seen anything like this before, and know how to fix it? I thought about calling Vodafone's support, but I was trying to self-diagnose before I did that. This has been happening for months.

Thank you I sent a PM.

Additional information - we have 3 modems. 2 in bedrooms and the other was in the living room. We were using the modem and router out of one of the bedrooms, but relocated it to the living room because we are trying to set up a wired connection to a computer in there.

When I plugged the router into the modem in the living room, there was no internet... so I took the modem in the bedroom and replaced the one in the living room, and it worked. I just put the non-functioning one in a drawer, but that was strange... (Oh, and yes this issue was happening before I did all this. It is happening regardless of where the modem/router was located.)

We use the following devices on the wireless network:

2 windows laptops
1 macbook pro
4 samsung cell phones
1 ipad
1 ps vita
1 wireless printer

There's probably a few more assorted devices, and family comes over from time to time and uses it too. Basically it gets a lot of activity/use. I had a thought that maybe all the devices connected might be messing it up or something, but that seems strange...

Another question - is there a need to plug an ethernet (wired) connection from the router back into the telstraclear box? This is how it was set up in both bedrooms with the 2 cable boxes, but I unplugged the wire and didn't notice a difference... I plugged it back in after setting the living room back up, but I don't get what that's for. Does the cable box use/need internet?

Hang on just a sec...
each TBOX comes paired with a motorola modem which it uses for accessing the TV GUIDE.
Have you paired that modem with a router instead of the TBOX, so you can access the internet for all your Pc and other devices ?

edit: no wait, i just re-read you post. you swapped out the tbox modem with one from the bedroom.
but the answer to one of your questions is: yes the TBOX has its own modem , set up to access the TV guide and is not set up for general internet access.

I see, so basically the motorola modem in the living room wasn't bad, it's just only set up to provide the tv guide to the telstraclear box.

And yes, so the way it is set up right now is:

y spliter ------------------------------------------- telstraclear box
            |                                                 |
-------motorola modem ---- router -------- pc

yeah. As I understand it, (and ZollyMosta will correct me if i'm wrong), the original motorola modem that came with the TBOX was configured to access the telstraclear TV WAN only, and that network does not have access to the WWW. Which is why when you first connected your router to it you had no access for your PCs and other devices.
Now that you have used the motorola from the bedroom instead, you've got access to the WWW again.
However, connecting the TBOX to the router is no good for the TBOX as it still cannot access the TV GUIDE, and I would guess, may well be impacting on the health of the router when the TBOX regularly tries to update the TV GUIDE and fails to do so.

Hm... weird. Well we haven't noticed any issues with the guide or recording yet, but it's only been set up like this for a few days now.

You should be able to test my theory by examining the TV GUIDE. Once on screen, press the BLUE button (+24hrs) repeatedly to see if the TV GUIDE is fully loaded for seven days. I expect it to show fewer days.
Alternatively, if you are game, you could reboot the TBOX which would force the issue.
Or you could wait for a VF tech to confirm/correct these details when they next post here ;-)

edit:
i've just done a quick test, and the original motorola modem is used by the TBOX for more than just the TV GUIDE. It's also used for checking service availability and pay per view etc.
Booting the TBOX without the modem powered up (or with the WWW modem hooked up in it's place) causes the TBOX to moan that service is unavailable, and the TV GUIDE is empty. You get no LIVE TV or anything much other than a Padlock icon.

Hm... I clicked on guide and went all the way to next Saturday. It's super slow, so I didn't keep going, but it looks fine to me. We don't buy a lot of PPV movies, but I'll keep that in mind.

I guess if we have problems with it, I will end up having to call Vodafone out to the house to hook up a second connection in the living room. >_>
