Is Vodafone getting ready to open up for 4G on prepay to meet Telecoms new 4G offer?

And will Vodafone do something to match the extra data that can be purchased and that I can actually use over a months time (instead of a day or a week which is the case at Vodafone)?

My friend was gloating this morning that [His] Telecom is sending him a 4G sim for free, and that [My] Vodafone is charging for theirs.

That said, my S3, is not the LTE version anyway, so it makes no odds to me at this stage, but when I get my Galaxy S4 :o)

Vodafone customers that want access to the 4G network don't need a new SIM card our 2G/3G/4G HLR / HSS is from one vendor one bit of hardware

There is no such thing as a 4G SIM card there is a USIM but still not a 4G SIM

So that is data only plans, right? And no 4G.

I am on Prepay Smart and would love to be able to buy something more than the add ons that are available today. Like the 100MB for a week, 300MB for a day and 500 MB for day.

From what I understand Telecom offers:

500 MB extra for a month: $15
1.5 GB extra for a month: $29
3 GB extra for a month: $49

On their prepaid plans.

Interesting, I will ask him to check what he's actually being sent.

They definitely sent him a new SIM for his iPhone 5, due to the new 4G network.

Am I right in assuming that there is a cost for VF customers with LTE/4G enabled phones, to be able to access the 4G network?  Like switching to 4G specific plans etc?

Telecom currently have 3gb for $29 also, seems to be a limited time offer however. I've just got my 4G sim from them today.
