Last month I set up a custom domain on Outlook.com and over the month have migrated emails from my three ISP email address (Clear, Orcon and Snap) but there are a few subscriptions that are proving painful to remove/change email address on. I learnt yesterday that Outlook.com has a feature where it can access your POP email and pull the emails from those accounts into my custom domain.

Setting up the connection to Orcon and Snap was a breeze and took no time at all
Clear on the other hand will not connect saying that the smtp server is incorrect.

This is the same issue I get whenever I try to setup Clear emails on my Android so I guess it is somehow related ...

I searched the forum and came across a few threads describing the same issue, but none of them seem to have a clear answer (unless I am reading them incorrectly) of how to resolve

I did also spend 20 minutes on hold with Vodafone support, only to get in contact with someone who didn't know what Outlook.com and custom domains was ...

What errors are you seeing exactly and what values are you providing to Outlook.com on what to connect to?

Why do you need the smtp server when all you are trying to do is setup Outlook.com to pop the mail from Clear?

To answer some questions

Username (not email address)
Password
pop.clear.net.nz
Port 110

Untick Require Secure Connection
Untick Leave on Server

(Note, if I leave the Port at 995 it errors, same if I require a secure connection)

smtp.clear.net.nz
Port 25

Untick Require Secure Connection
Tick Use Same Username and Password to Send and Receive

At this point the error message is Unable to contact SMTP server

While I do not need to send email using Outlook.com, the only options are to send or send and receive
In order to receive the email, I need to set up the receive side of things.

(sorry for the back to back messages)

Using this thread as a reference http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=113101 I decided to try something within the settings and rather than using SMTP settings for Clear, I used the SMTP settings for Snap (my current ISP) and authenticated using my Snap username and password

With those settings in Outlook accepted the rest of the details and my Clear emails are now being pulled from Clear into Outlook.com

So it seems that Clear/Vodafone DO NOT allow you to use their SMTP server if you are not using Clear/Vodafone as your ISP. There may be a technical reason for this BUT it should be documented somewhere on the website (and in multiple paces since the Clear and Vodafone website seem to have conflicting information) and the support staff on the helpdesk made aware of this as well since the person I called yesterday had no clue what I was talking about (only being able to tell me 'it should work')

All ISPs do this now unless you use the SSL/TLS and authentication method for sending via their SMTP server.

Neither does changing the options of using another username/password other than those used for pop settings (I have no idea what other username or password to use though)

Can you not just use your outlook.com smtp address? All it needs is an SMTP server it can find and log in to.

The default one (if you have an outlook.com email, yours will be different if you have your own domain):
Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com

Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)

Authentication: Yes

Encrypted Connection: TLS

User name: Your email address

Password: Your password

^ Now that I know anyone BUT Clear's SMTP server will work, yes I could probably edit the details to add in Outlooks details
