I am not getting SMS authentication from services such as Microsoft Account, Facebook - those are the SMS to authenticate you own a number and the SMS received with a 2TFA code to use when logging in.

It seems it started happening around two or three weeks ago. Anyone else having this problem on Vodafone?

It's not a new problem. My mother had a Vodafone SIM and was having issues of not being able to send / recieve TXT messages from her brother in England. After numerous attempts to get if fixed at both ends, she eventually changed to another provider (I can't remember if it was Telecom or 2Degrees) and everything worked fine ... seems to simply be yet another case of Vodafone not actually knowing how to run a service, just like their dial-up internet "service". :(

How can you say this is a Vodafone issue? We have had zero issues with SMS these SMS are routed via 3rd party vendors across the other side of world, Vodafone NZ is just a the B party network here and if the SMS were making it to our network we would deliver them onto the subscribers MSISDN,

I have heard of no SMS issues between UK and Vodafone NZ, The only international SMS issue I was aware of was Ireland and they were not routing the SMS via Sybase and they should be

John, you might be right. But do we know if Vodafone is correctly setup to actually peer with these other providers? We know Vodafone "blocks" SMS from certain services saying it's to "prevent spam". Are you sure these blocks aren't affecting legitimate services?

I have a Prepay test number that gets many SMS from the services you have listed above, I have just emailed you the mobile number, See why I get many SMS to it?

I have confirmed the SMS are making it to the Vodafone NZ network and getting delivered to the mobile number with ack back from the handset,

It seems the handset is either not correctly receiving/storing the message or simply not showing them.

I will try on another handset tonight (different OS too).

Thanks Mauricio, that would be awesome. If you could let us know of the outcome that would be ace.

Cheers,

How can you say this is a Vodafone issue?

Because simply changing SIM card (in the same phone) to use another provider at this end fixed the "problem" ... hence the problem is definitely with Vodafone, despite the usual weeks of mucking us about and blaming everyone else.

Yep, they do something similar with their email service. What Vodafone thinks is spam email is simply, deleted with no chance of checking it nor getting it back. I know I've had legitmate emails go missing this way (and real spam still gets through anyway). :( Again, the solution was to use a separate email service which is run properly.

But the routing can be different from A party carrier to carrier, This does not prove it's a Vodafone NZ issue by any means, How many mobile networks have you worked on and how well do you understand SMS routing end to end?

If a SMS is routed to our network and rules are meet then we will deliver the SMS to the subscribers MSISDN

Email and SMS spam are handled very different, Sybase and A party network should have rules in place for SMS spam,

I have looked into many many SMS issues of SMS not been delivered over my time here at Vodafone,

Vodafone NZ subs can't send SMS to E-plus subscribers in Germany, We pass the SMS over but the SMS is not delivered to the subscriber, We know why but they don't want to open it up

Using the SIM card on the HTC One now.

- Microsoft Account SMS arrived fine (and after inserting it in the Nokia Lumia it did to receive a message when needed).

- Facebook SMS did not arrive. In fact the HTC One shows this error (which might explain why JohnR saw the message being received by the Nokia Lumia but that handset didn't show any error, while the HTC One showed it):

I guess the infamous VF spam filter has migrated to the SMS platform - "lets just delete the message and not tell the sender or receiver"

Make sure you read my latest reply (above yours) to see that some messages are arriving in a format some handsets don't understand. One OS shows an error message, another silently dumps the message. So far no foul play by Vodafone on this one.

As above I can see the SMS coming into our SMPP Gateway getting passed to the SMSR and then delivered to the handset fine and the ack coming back from the handset, No filtering going on anywhere and these SMS are coming from trusted Shortcodes
