Hello,

Can anyone give me an update as to when IPv6 will be available for Vodafone customers? I am a cable user and would like to start using it.

Cheers,
GM.

I think its already active. When I was staying with my Dad in Kapiti who is on Vodafone/Telstra cable I installed my old WNR3500L for him and it immediately started working. The routing sucked though as no peering in NZ for IPv6 to Orcon or Unleash at least. I don't think it was native.

What kind of router are you using? From memory it was 6to4 but super impressed it was being automatically setup on that router...

I am using an AudioCodes MP264 and yes it supports IPv6. I do see DNS resolution but since I am on the cable network I wonder if the transparent proxy doesn't end up just retrieving IPv4 instead.

I think the community probably expected an update on the lines of "yes we are working on it | no we are not working on it | sometime soon we will need testers" not a "wait for the press release, if ever".

I get an IPv6 address with my VDSL then my WiFi seems to run at 20Mbp/s max throughput.

This is not a marketing exersize. IPV6 support doesn't need to be hidden from the competition until release day. It is kind of like switching off the analog television network. Each telco will obviously be working towards IPV6 support.

I would have thought the IPV6 support roadmap from Vodafone would have been able to be publicly released John?

/conspiracy theory/ Unless there is no roadmap..../

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

One day we will need it so i think its going to be there soon if not all Telstra stuff would have been merged by then and maybe not need to develop it there. I dont know myself if there are any plans for Telstra IPv6.

* There are no official plans at this stage.

A very breif comment about IPv6 on that podcast. No real details other than it's being worked on. Interesting podcast none the less though, more focused on 4G/5G and improving Vodafone's cell infrastructure.

Being worked on is all you need to know at the moment :)
