It looks like Vodafone are getting closer to deploying their 3G over 900MHz spectrum:

The question is, will our existing hardware work on this? I.E. as the current 3G cellphones / Vodems etc assume 3G is on 2100MHz, will they discover 3G on the other bands too? Or will we be in for hardware or firmware upgrades again?

New hardware. There's not much in the market (if at all) that operates WCDMA 900 MHz, which is completely different from GSM 900 MHz.

I don't believe there is a single WCDMA 900MHz device available on the market yet.

Vodafone's network is going to be one of the first WCMDA 900MHz large scale rollouts in the world and is a testing bed for the entire group so I guess we're quite lucky in that respect!

Guess that will be something to keep in mind with the next data card. Maybe if we're lucky, some devices or phones might be smart enough to take a firmware upgrade, considering they do have a 900MHz antenna etc built in.
