I can't see it mentione don the Network Status page (no surprise there), so just to make sure it is recorded somewhere for historical purposes ...


Vodafone's dial-up service was M.I.A. for the best part of 24 hours on 20-21 February, 2014. Eventually fixed.

I think the last time I looked at dialup in a former job, there were something in the region of 30-50k dialup connections still in NZ, and dropping at around 30% per year. so probably close to 20k left now.

If anyone is researching ISPs looking for a new one, they should be able to find out what issues the company have had in the past as well as currently having, not just the extremely abreviated list that the compnay bothers to put on their website's "Network Status" page.

It misleading of ISPs to list only having two "current" / recent problems this week, when last week there were 900 problems.

I fix stuff!

Telecom had a major > 24hr outage of its IPNet platform, which Vodafone, Orcon and others use to offer dialup services.

I guess their equipment "sparked"....

You lucky, lucky bastards..

There are still many rural nz'ers who rely on dial up – most of our neighbours do. For many of us it's an essential service.

We have a sat connection, as our business requires internet, but it breaks down a fair bit – so we keep a dial up account as backup.

It was off all of January this year - and many happy hours were spent with the squeal and warble of dial up telling us our crappy phone line had dropped the connection yet again..

Roll on RBI - Coming soon to our neck of the woods. Best spend of my tax dollars ever!

Dialup and broadband connection issues (barring authentication) are not usually related.

I didn't say they were related ... although thinking about it now I may have posted it in the wrong sub-section (the way I got here meant it only says "Forums › Vodafone New Zealand, TelstraClear and ihug", so nothing about broadband)
