At home we are on a plan for phone, cable broadband, and TV (Sky + sports) with a T-Box. The 12-month contract expires in a month or two, and we're looking at continuing the current setup, perhaps just with an increase in broadband speed or capacity.

But first I have some questions. Perhaps some other users here can help with answers before we try the call centre.

[1] On the website I see three available Mbps down/up broadband speeds: 15/2 (we have this now with a supplied SB5101 modem), 50/2 and 130/10. We've no need for 130/10, but the price jump to 50/2 is reasonable. Would that require anything different to be installed? A modem change?

[2] The website offers less information than ever on total package prices, unless I'm not looking in the right places. Where can I put together a package (phone, choose broadband speed and capacity, add Sky and sports) and see what it would cost? I could do that a year ago.

[3] Is there a better option for a long time user (been with TCL cable for years) enquiring about a deal for another 12 month term, than just calling the "Formerly with TelstraClear" 0508 number from the website contacts page? Not looking for anything unrealistic, but found various small addon fees usually get waived with a 12 month term. This time last year it seemed rather hit and miss what knowledge the answering staff member had and what they'd offer. Had no need to call since then, perhaps it has improved?

1. Yes, the higher speeds use DOCSIS3, and if you have the old DOCSIS2 modem you will need the new one

1. Yep, as Mauricio says, you'll need a DOCSIS3.0 modem for the higher speed tiers. We can get this swapped out for you free of charge when you upgrade your plan.

2. Go here, click 'Buy Now' on the applicable plan, enter your address, assemble your dream package. :)

3. When you're out of contract, feel free to flick me a PM/chase us up on Twitter or Facebook/email onlinecare@vodafone.co.nz & we'll get the right folks to call you back.

Cheers,

If you have an On Account mobile, the 80GB 50/2 plan with home phone is discounted to $85.00/month (Normally $95), & the 80GB 50/2 naked plan is discounted to $65.00/month (Also normally $95). There's also the 80GB 15/2 plan with home phone, which is $85.00/month (Or $75 with the mobile discount).

Unsure if there was a specific promotion for one of those plans, sorry.

Not seeing anything specific there beyond mention of the Share 80GB plan, which is $85/month on 15/2, $95/month on 50/2, or whack $10 off either plan with the mobile discount - The modem is installed free on a 12 month term as standard, and routers can be provided if requested. Would suggest talking to the sales folk if you're after information on specific promotions, can get them in touch if you'd like. :)

Myself and another neigbour have ordered the 80GIG promo on cable with wireless router and speed ugrade to 50MB/sec. I do hope this issue will be sorted out soon  as we were both advised that we would be installed with new modem and wireless router by mid january 2014. We are both existing cable customers.

Thanks for the responses everyone, they answered all the questions well. I didn't realise that clicking Buy Now on the website and entering my address would lead to the package tuning functionality I wanted.

Now I just need to pick the speed and capacity. We've never found 15 Mbps down 2 up to be a bottleneck, nor ever gone over 40 GB of our current 60 GB plan, but in a year's time who knows... Probably best to go to the 50/2 which has higher capacity options.

I changed to 50/2 sometime ago.... it's an odd number and should really have been 50/5 to overcome how TCP works with Receive/Transmit handling, but it works well enough for downloads. Really helps the backend was upgraded a while ago to cope.... TCL Cable is still pretty good.
