I have just received a new VDSL modem for installation of Friday. That will leave me with two ADSL modems. Are they mine to dispose of?

You have to contact Vodafone and gave these removed from your account as they are linked to it and any traffic someone else use later will be counted as yours.

You can remove these modem serial numbers from your online portal when you sign into your account via the Vodafone website.

A few cases of people here saying they had high usage to find out later they had given the modems to someone else and being charged for their usage...

One of them is actually BNIB - they sent me another when I switched to naked BB even though I said I did not need it.

I hope they pay very little for them because otherwise it must be wasting a fair bit to send new ones to people like that.
