Anyway, this is a good deal like the DickSmith one last week so i'm going to URL-drop it....

Noel leeming until tomorow have 20% off Vodafone Mobile Phones, and Triple Fly Buys on Everything if you really care about FyBys.
20% off is pretty good, probably the highest % I have seen..... Enjoy!

See the site for terms....

Perhaps we should create a thread for discounts so people can post about those bargain things?

Great idea but what about the hoards of "we sell cheap mobile" rubbish.. maybe one which is physical retailers only?

Noel-leeming and Farmers and parallel imported reguarly run 10 - $20% off specials or one-off hot offers on selected phones (The Warehouse) but none of this online garbage... maybe a "moderated before posted" forum?

Hmmm, it might be something I'll just leave to my blog in future, it will get around the abuse problem, I might even do a whole section on Wholesalers and other discounters that deal with the public.

Yey! N70 for $480 and N73 for $800. Not bad at all. Of course, Noel Leeming can afford to trim their margins quite a bit because their extended warranties are so expensive and they push them so hard.

Unfortunately I still can't quite afford the N73 even at that price and the N70 isn't a big enough step up from my current 6630, but hopefully they'll be a bit cheaper by the end of the year if the $NZ remains high.

They can afford it can they?

Does anyone have any ideas how many stores that they have closed recently?

From what ive heard 2 Bond and Bond in Wellington have closed, a third is rumoured to close. Also heard that 5 in Auckland have closed, and 3 in CHCH, of those im not too sure if they are both Bond and Bond or Noel Leeming.

Aparently they opened too many stores in the last few years, and have lost $12m in the last year.

I'd say their overzealous sales tactics could be part of the problem.
They remind me of the Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde Ghosts in pacman, wandering about the aisles and then each chasing pacman (customer) when they get close, and those horrid "warranties!" ugh! I have seen many a case where the "warranty is invalid" but eh CGA still applies! go figure.

I usually shop DSE due to their returns policy and after sales support (spare parts) or occasionally Harvey Norman as I know the staff there.

Opening up Bond & Bond stores right next to Noel Leeming when both stores share probably 90% of the product range stores isn't exactly brilliant marketing.

No but they could have made it work, there are DSE stores near DSE Powerhouse stores. Yes the sales will drop but it still works, the Hamilton store is still hanging around.

But then a Powerhouse and DSE combo, is a lot different than a "budget" and "classy" combo.

There is a difference between "near" and "right next to" as is the case with quite a few of their stores. It'd be interesting to know how many people realise they are one and the same company.

Discounts on 'normal' mobile phones? Boring.

I'm after a shiny, new Smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.

How about a thread for really geeky, new products instead?

In Dunedin they built a new Noel Leeming superstore and Bond & Bond super right across the road from each other. Everytime I go into one of them they are almost dead because they are both competing for customers, in the industrial part of town where nobody goes to shop. Stupidest move ever

Maybe its a foolish attempt at market research? They see which one works best, then they will know which one to build :D

Oh woops, they've already built it, sorry but we are guying have to fire 10 employees.

The problem that I've encountered almost every time I've visited a Noel Leeming store to take them up on an advertised special is that they don't have the product in stock so they try to offer me shop stock or tell me to go to another branch.

I was highly amused when I bought my Nokia 6630 about a year ago. I went into the Noel Leeming store on Tory Street in Wellington where they didn't have any boxed ones in stock, and I was told to go to Bond and Bond on the other side of the car park who had stock. The staff at Noel Leeming were actually able to check the Bond and Bond store's inventory on their computer and even verify that Bond and Bond were offering the same special price, although the Bond and Bond staff were completely unaware of the special until they checked for me. I also noticed that the service was very off-hand after I made it clear that I wouldn't be buying an extended warranty.

I won't deal with these monkeys again if I can help it.

Next time they offer a warranty, and are really pushy about it, offer them ten bucks for it to see if they'll take it for a laugh. Afterall, they are only insurance policys that the store takes out on the product if it is returned.

20% off is a reasonable deal for a nu phone tho, if youre in the market for one.
