Hi there geekzoners.I used to be a customer with telstra clear cable and left after many years of problems with cable (disconnections poor browsing spped you name it ) ive been on telecom adsl2 for a while now and its been rock solid very reliable however speeds are falling behind these days and would like to upgrade telecom cant offer me vdsl or fibre .How is the cable network now that voda has taken over ?.Ive noticed my family has got new Modems now not the old motorola surfboards.Thanks for any advice I really appreciate it

If you had these kinds of problem with cable back then I'd have looked at your router being underpowered, WiFi interference, wrong DNS configuration, bad cables.

I have been using cable since the late 90s (back when it was Chello, before Saturn even) and never had this kind of problems.

Still pretty good.

Thanks for that .This was the problem we had though everyone we knew that had cable had no issues but ours was awful we brought new computers game consoles everything but it remained awful so very gun shy about returning to cable because more than likely we will get locked into a 12 month contract .Hey freit long time no see I think in total we worked it out to be 25 visits from downers multiple replace modems and routers so yes we checked all avenues at the time :)

I signed up for cable with Telstra Clear just before the Vodafone takeover.
Since the takeover performance is unchanged but data caps have improved considerably.
I went from cable 130/10Mbps with a 150 GB data cap (TC) to cable 50/2Mbps with a 500GB data cap (VF) at the same price. (150/10 costs $30pm more)
There have been a few outages recently, but nothing major.
I get full advertised 50/2 speeds.
Page loading has never been superfast. A typical local ping is 10-30ms.

Its worth noting all of the problems we had baffled all involved downers eng. telstra etc .We moved houses three times and it would follow us so I hope you can understand me being hesitant :)

It is a 12-month contract with a $199 Early Termination Fee for internet PLUS a $399 ETF if you have Sky/VF TV.

I was ext telstra cable as well. By that time netflix is not working so moved to adsl. Does the vodafone cable able to stream netflix now? I believe this is something to so with proxy. Does voda allow users to be excluded from proxy?

Netflix has always worked, but it depends entirely how you were trying to access it. There were some issues with unblockit which is fundamental to the way unblockit works (which in itself can be considered a hack) but I believe that now works.

Unblock-us works now on TCL cable, but while Netflix is pretty good, there are still some timeouts loading images and Google properties can be particularly slow for first time to byte.

A "speedtest to LA" means very little unless you're going to name a specific server as speeds will vary considerably between them. There is some massive congestion that occurs domestically within SoCal due to the way peering (or lack of it) works in the US.

Can't answer your first question.
On VF cable 50/2, the OOKLA speed test (speedtest.net) NOW gives:
local (Wellington) - ping 30ms, speed 49/2Mbps
LA - ping 150ms, speed 44/2Mbps
(I get similar speeds downloading from LA via proxy server)
Speeds vary according to time and traffic.

Can someone confirm if getflix is working with voda cable? And if ps3/4 can stream superhd?
And no buffering? Last time I saw from voda forum is that it keeps buffering due to proxy?

Im looking for another isp again because bigpipe wont allow amex as bill payment. Reason for this is because work is paying my internet by amex. Reimburse is not option because it is more costly to process.

Vodafone has done a lot of work on the cable network and other downstream elements since the take over of Telstraclear

If you are expecting no buffering on SuperHD 24/7 downloading from LA you really need to understand consumer grade internet and how it's shared capacity, Sounds like you need a service that offers a SLA contract which you will be paying far more for than everyday consumer grade internet,

Heya. Just checking experience of voda cable users on netflix streaming. I was with slingshot and can stream superhd even i only got 18Mb down. Even with bigpipe. I can stream superhd without buffering and got 22Mb down. Note that all are unlimited cap. But when I was with telecom, it was nightmare that you could watch netflix (always buffering) This is only prob on ps3. I believe this is due to proxy. But when telecom users bypassed proxy. They can watch netflix ok. So just wondering if this is still the case with voda.
