I've got my home and mobile both on vodafone. I'm have a really weird problem connecting to some of my websites where they have a >12s delay in connecting with the website - each and every time.

Some details

if I connect through my phone via 3g it's quick
if I connect through my phone via wifi it's slow
if I connect via a laptop on wifi it's slow
if I connect via my desktop computer on ethernet it's slow
websites running software A are affected
websites on the same server running wordpress are fast
A tracert on my sites give very similar results
A request for an image on the affected site will be fast

this is all points to a problem with the script however when others try to access the slow or fast sites they have no issues - or if I go through a proxy it is fast.

I use google's dns settings but have changed them to Vodafone's and that made no difference.

I'm all out of ideas on how to debug this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Have you had a look in the dev tools / timeline in your browser to see what's holding it up, maybe compare the two timelines? It could be some cache or other in the loop which is waiting to have all the data before serving it to the end user...

Anyway I can break down that first line to something more helpful?

hio77: I'll go and do some research on transparent proxy - I'm not familiar with that one.

Not being a network person I don't know if this is a red herring or not but a tracert always seems to hang on step 5

over over the bar and dig down a bit more as to what stage it is stuck on, is it waiting for a receive for example?

as for transparent proxy, im sure theres plenty of juicy material in the VF section here :)

hope 5 is pausing, while it trying to work out the reverse IP name.

Ok, this is weirder - our router has been rebooted plenty of times for various reasons but I just read another thread where that worked so decided I had nothing to lose and whaddayaknow it worked. So when I think something strange is happening I just have to reboot the router. I've been on adsl for as long as anyone else in Auckland and I've never had a router that needed TLC.

I gather there are vodafone techs who keep any eye on this forum - guys - you need more robust hardware!

Wow, that's nasty making you wait 18s for a webpage! Glad that a simple reboot of the router fixed it, or you'd be venturing into the twilight zone :P
