I have an app on my android phone that communicates over my local wifi network to control an eternet-connected device. To control it remotely ie over 3g,I need to set up port mapping. I can access the modem then go to Internet/Forwarding and then it all gets too complex.

I have to forward port 80
I know the external and internal IP addresses
I know the mac address of the device

Can anyone help from there?

Does this help?
https://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Modems-home-Wi-Fi/Read-Me-HG659-Port-Forwarding/td-p/117724

Create a new rule:
External port 80 ~ 80
Internal Port 80
Internal host (the target machine/device)

Well I have followed that as much as I am able but no joy, I am missing something. Seems like it should be quite straight-forward.

If I use my phone on 3g (no wifi) to connect to my external ip address it takes mt to my modem web page where it is asking for username/password. If I add :80 to the IP address I get "SSl Connection Error."
Is there something else I need to set up on the Port-forwarding page?

Hi, you will probably find port 80 is going to take you to the routers web server. This app you use, can you change the port it uses.

Hi,

80 will resolve the routers home page. You can change your web server to 8080.

Cheers

Working on 8080?
If not use HTTPS, But im pretty sure the modem runs HTTPS so ill figure out how to unbind 80 from it.
