This has probably come up before, but I haven't seen it.

I am wanting to set some iptables rules on my Vodafone HG659 Router, This was possible on the old one, but doesn't seem possible now.

I can SSH to the box with admin, and reach a shell, however this is a far as I can go, iptables seems to be locked down to root and I can't get root access.

Anyone found a way around this?

Cheers,

P

You are better off posting this  question over on community.vodafone.co.nz, but the reality is that VF have asked for some extensive mods to the firmware for this modem from Huaweii and the owners of this hardware and locked out from doing what they want.

You are better off sending it back and getting your own modem.

Hi,

I will give it a try over there. Do you know of any Fibre compatible modems that you would recommend. My poor old Cisco routers no longer work since switching to fibre as they don't support VLAN.

Cheers,

Don't know how fiber compatible it is, but I use a netcomm nv4f for my VDSL connection, it has a WLAN port so you should be able to plug it directly into the media converter?

most reasonable routers will be good for fiber.

if your wanting iptables though, your gonna wanna look outside of the more common "consumer" brands.
