Has anyone else had this? Ocassionally I find my VFX service has dropped out, line lights are not lite, but everything else on the network has Internet connectivity. Rebooting the PAP2T does not fix it, I have to reboot the router and sometimes the PAP2T too.
What could be causing this issue? For me it is not really a problem as it has happend very seldom, but one of my customers this has been happening serveral times a week. Not good
WxC ticket #49186

Thanks

It sounds like a router issue Fraser.  For about 2 weeks in April I was using an old router after my normal one got zapped by lightning.  On one occasion, VFX went off-line with the LEDs on the PAP2T going out the same as you have found.  Yet, my web browser, e-mail and other internet functions were all working normally.  So I didn't think the router could be to blame...

So I called Xnet Tech. Support and the first thing they suggested was rebooting my router.  Sure enough that fixed it, so I made a mental note to try that before phoning them next time Embarassed

Because it is happening frequently, your customer may need to get a new router.

When I was having ADSL line problems I had to reset the wag54g regularly to re-connect the PAP2T. Going to fixed IP on the PAP2T helped. The line problem was fixed but I still check the ATA leds every morning.

Hi Fraser,

Can you have them check that they have set their PAP2 up on a Static, what may happen is the router is dropping the connection when the DHCP renews the lease, when they set it up you will have to make sure the put in the DNS settings in as well.

Try that first and see how you go,

Talking of this issue, my VFX decided to go down too! Will try the static setup - thanks.

An update on this one. Have made the change to static IP so will see how we go. However I have done a test on my own setup. Have implemented a static IP / DNS etc, then I simulated an ADSL outage - unplug phone cord, plug in phone cord. This resulted in Internet working again on the PC's, but alas the PAP2T is now offline. Power restart the PAP2T, still not back online. Next will be a router restart that should fix it.
Can anyone else reproduce this?
I'm using Dynalink RTA1025W & RTA1320 routers with latest 3.29u firmware.

Thanks

Fraser,
One thing with your static IP do you have the DNS entries set up ?

I will also see if I can get one of these routers to test as well

Hi Fraser,

I ahve been doing some testing this morning with a Dynalink 770
Firmware Version 2.18.01.16_A2A015h.d15g

At this stage I can't reproduce the issue with either the Static or DHCP assigned IP to a PAP2T, I don't have the rta1320 in my lab but I will have one of my Guys purchase one today and run some tests on this today as well.

1. The tests carried out was to establish the DSL link and then the PAP2T,
2. Ensure PAP2t was working both ways.
3. Disconnect the DSL Line
4. Wait until the PAP2T lost registration (ie no Line 1 LED)
5. Re establish DSL
6. Wait for PAP2T to re register (LED 1 turns Green Laughing )
7. Make calls both ways
8. Repeat 3 times

Now I ran this with both DHCP and Static on the PAP2T so I am fairly happy that the PAP2T is running okay, I do however believe you are seeing an issue, you wouldn't have raised it otherwise (unless you just like to mess with our minds)so my concern will now shift to the firmware for the Dynalinks and the rta1320 so I will need to get one and run the same tests again.

Thats all I have at this stage, will get back to you after I have the Guys test with the rta1320

Hi Phil,

I have confirmed this issue with my RTA1025W (wireless Dynalink router), but not the RTA1320 (single port router), As these have the same firmware engine, and my client has this drop out issue on their setup with the RTA1320, I assume this will be the same result across the current Dynalink range (frimware 3.29u).
After some more troubleshooting I was able to bring the PAP2T back online resetting the PAP2T only. Either way though, once the ADSL link is lost & reestablished, it still requires manual intervention to bring the PAP2T back online.
I guess the other issue here is, what's causing frequent ADSL outages?

Thanks

What we can do is if you phone into the helpdesk 0800144357 (080014HELP) and we will look at the dsl records for that dsl connection to see from our end if we see these disconnections also same applies for the customer you mentioned, that way we can check to see if it's disconnection from the DSL side or the router side.

Update, we have a rta1320 (tiny little thing isn't it) been running the same test's as before and sorry to say I can't at this stage fault it or reproduce your issue have run the test's approx 20 times,

we will be looking at ta couple more things, if we can't reproduce the issue we will look to set up some logging directly on your device so we can see what is happening.

Have talked to Josh and advised him to disable UPnP. This is my normal configuration. After factory reseting my RTA1025W, the PAP2T would come back online (once) after a DSL disconnect. After disabling UPnP (for security reasons), that seemed to be what triggers the PAP2T to not come back online.

Hi Baron,

We have just disabled UPnP, restarted both devices, waited for the pap2t to register then took the ADSL line out of the router.. after the registration timed out we then plugged the ADSL line back into the router, after several minutes the pap2t came back online..

we are testing with the RTA1320 and the same firmware load as yours, are there any further changes that you have made on Router?

Thanks

Josh

I also setup the wireless - N/A for the model you have, and I think I changed the admin login password. Other than that, was factory defaults then disable UPnP. Also I do have several computers, ip phones, printer, switches etc attached to the network too. So I guess if you haven't done so, add a hub and a few misc PCs etc. Also the PAP2T was set back to dynamic IP, so if you set your one up as static, change that back too.
Will do some more testing over the weekend and see what else I can workout.

Thanks for all your efforts! It's great to deal with a company who is keen to work through issues in such detail.

"Next registration in 1074s" say what! that's nearly half an hour.
Troubleshooting with another router, disconnect phone line, wait for VFX to drop out, reconnect phone line, DSL back online, VFX back online - a good start.
Repeat experiment:
Disconnect ph, wait for VFX to drop out, reconnect, still waiting for VFX to come back online. Login into PAP2T, status says next reg over 1000s, a long time to wait.
What would cause the re-registering time to jump so high?
