Hi,

I've recently had a few voicemail messages that start off with a ring tone and then someone answers, "Hello....hello???.....Hello????? <hangup>. The number is private so I don't know where the call is coming from. One of the messages I just got hold music. 2 of them sound like the same guy.

Anyone had this happen before?

I have had it happen lots of times -
Usually when someone calls from a shop or company with a pabx. If they dont hang up properly ie. they just hook flash, the pabx puts you on hold and then rings back the same extension once the phone has been hung up properly. It only happens when they ring, get your voice mail and decide not to leave a message.

Hopefully they'll realise it the next time they call, and actually leave a message.

Can't think of who it would be. One nice thing about having an uncommon number starting with 741 is that I've NEVER had a "wrong number" call or a telemarketer, prank call etc. One time I had a lengthy argument with a stubborn woman taking my details who refused to accept that my number was a local Christchurch one and there was no convincing her, she got extremely angry with me and wouldn't listen to my explanation and she kept speaking over me "I'm sorry, but Christchurch numbers only start with a 3 or a 9!! Now where are you really calling from?" :)

So I imagine that this guy is legit... I've updated my phone message to explain the situation, hopefully that helps, if not I'll pass on the details.

Thanks
