FYI:

My iPhone is struggling to activate iMessage service through the phone number. When I called VF, they said that there was an ongoing issue with Apple and that we had to wait a few days for them to fix some routing issue. Apparently messages are being sent to the iMessage server (the international SMS), but no confirmation is being received to enable service.

That said, I've now raked up a $10 bill in international SMSes - will VF reimburse me when it is a problem with your own systems/issues with Apple?

Hi,

Nope - I've been with VF for a while. It just stopped working a few days ago, and I haven't been able to reactivate it on iMessage. When I called support, they elevated it to a tech, and he said that there was some ongoing issue.

PMing you my number now. Thanks for the offer of help.

*** Edit: Yes, the number itself is a ported number (022), but it has been working fine for many months, and just gave up about 4 days ago. ***

I had exactly the same problem, it took weeks for apple to get it to work, interestingly only after I explained that I had missed a number of business critical texts, and asked them to reply in writing as to how their service was, or was not, part of the apple offering, and meet reasonable terms of supply.

They really did NOT want to out anything in writing, which is odd because they say all their phone calls are recorded

I am on a ported number and I still can't activate.

I also have a nice international txt bill.

Surely Vodafone knows the number that these activation txts go to and could zero rate them? Pretty sure there's one or two people on the Vodafone network with iPhones!!

I really don't think it's Vodafone's responsibility to foot the bill for iMessage activation.  This really needs to go to Apple for a resolution.

Personally, I think you've got grounds to demand full compensation for your activation text bill from Apple, especially as iMessage activation does not actually inform you that it will send an international text to set the feature up.  Certainly from a legal perspective you have standing to have a go at Apple over it.

I never turned it off. I keep turning it *on* every time it says "iMessage activation failed, please try again".

In an update, my iMessaging has mysteriously started working again overnight, after five days of activation hell. Maybe the problem has now been resolved?

Yup seems to be working now.

Thanks to whoever flicked the correct switch and got it working again.
