Hi,

Anyone else have problems with cable internet last night (Tuesday 24th).  I had the following symptoms between 9-10 pm (then gave up and went to bed).

1. could not get onto the internet for periods of time (approx on 20 min then off 20 min alternately)
2. during the times that I was off, I could not ping any addresses, the DNS servers or even my gateway;

However;
A. All the usual lights on the cable modem were on and the "pc activity" light was still flashing.
B. I could ping and get into the modem at 192.168.100.1
C. The status page on 192.168.100.1 all looked normal
D. The signal levels on the modem all looked about normal (SNR downstream ~36 dB, downstream power ~1.7dBmV, upstream power ~36 db mv)

Did anyone else experience similar issues last night, or can shed some light on what may have been going on?  We have only been on cable broadband for about 1 month.

Philip

Hi Phillip,

Did you try power-cycling your cable modem?  Sometimes they can get their knickers in a knot.
If you didn't, give this a try.

Cheers,

Yes I tried a power cycle a few times.  After the first power cycle it worked after a couple of minutes.  After the last time, I couldn't get on the internet, so I left it how it was and went to bed.  When I got up in the morning, it was working again.

Did you try power cycling your router(if you have one), or your PC?

Yes to both (at the suggestion of my wife), with similar results to restarting the modem (i.e. internet came back some times and not others, but it coming back could have been just a co-incidence as the internet was coming and going anyway).

To be honest I didn't see the need to power cycle the pc and the router, as at all times the pc could bring up the modem and router log in pages, and ping both the modem and the router.  i.e. the pc could get web pages off everything it could ping and the router was passing pings and web pages from the modem.  I just couldn't ping or see anything past the modem (i.e. the modem gateway).

Thanks for the suggestions
