I recently bought a Sony Ericsson V630i from vodafone. I really like the phone apart from all the vodafone rubbish included that I'll never use. I'm interested in what options I may have to debrand the phone or upgrade the firmware to remove all the vodafone extras and if I'll still be able to send/receive MMS, use video calling etc. I used to own a K750i parallel import which was great but unfortunately it was stolen. How would debranding or upgrading the firmware effect the phone and can it be done for free from my PC?

Thanks

Alex

you can debrand your phone and get rip of vodafone by flashing it to be k610 and it won't effect all functions. but you can't get it done by your own computer, just bring to any service centre (not vodafone one).

ok.. I was reading somewhere that if I do debrand the phone it will change some of the buttons, is this true? Where would I get the debrand done and how much does it usually cost? thanks

yes, because k610 layout is a bit different from v630, like dailup key will change to be web key... but just 1-2 keys changes and it won't effect you using the phone, normally it will cost around 80bucks to debranded the system, check out [removed], they can help.

I got the cables and box thingie (On Loan) to do it but I just don't know how it's called "Cruiser" with a "fighter" box.

I need to flash a k800i too so might poke this weekend and see if I can figure something

@paradoxsm: Be sure to read the Cruiser forum (PM me if you don't know it) before you do anything. You'll probably need credits (not free) to flash it, and you have to be sure what you're doing otherwise you might end up with a non-working phone that can't easily be fixed.

Sadly, SE's security has gotten VERY strong in the latest model phones.

Muppet is right, SE DB2020 phones, (K610,V630,K800,W950 etc.) cannot be flashed without using online server authorization which requires credits. Any attempt to flash the phone without completing the flash with an online server may result is a dead phone

There's another way of flashing DB2020 phones aside from using logs or credits , but you may have to wait 5 hrs if you're lucky :)
The easiest way is by logs. Otherwise you can't finish customizing your phone and it will give you configuration error message.
Good luck! ;)

Just an update, you can now flash and customize your Sony Ericsson phones without needing the logs/credits. It's free as long as you have the tools. Very good news. :)

Which tool is required to flash DB2020 without logs/credits? Cheers
