My home network is.. more complicated than strictly necessary. So I'm very unlikely to want an ISP supplied router to use with it, so ahead of my connection for the UFB I'm trying to ensure the router I use will be up to the task. (spoiler: my current router tops out at about 25mbps.. so it's not)

What I've looked for and been unable to find is a list of settings to use a 3rd party router with. For example spark has a really nice easy summary here: http://help.spark.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/1180/~/broadband-settings-for-third-party-modems

Is there a similar list somewhere for vodafone?

For UFB you will need a router that can tag the WAN traffic with VLAN 10 (if you dont know what this is google it) otherwise it won't work.

IP Over Ethernet.. Is this a more complex way of just saying: 'Setup the correct IPv4 settings on vlan 10 and you are away' (probably DHCP) with no more authentication to worry about than that?

It's pretty much DHCP, plug in to your new routers WAN port from the ONT, VLAN 10 tagging and then set it to DHCP and it will assign a public IP address

Related question. The HG659 allows me to connect my legacy analogue phones (does that make it essentially a Session Border Controller?). If I was to use my own router would I lose this functionality or are there 3rd party routers that include this feature?

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

It's just an analog telephone adapter like the Links PAP2T, I'm not sure about Vodafone I think they lock down their voip network. You will need to ask magical TimA

Well.. that's easy. Awesome.

Yes there are a number of threads that overcomplicate / confuse things (by people I suspect haven't set it up themselves) with all this talk of having to setup PPPoE authentication etc..

Just setup VLAN10 and set WAN to DHCP and you're away.

There are a number of routers that support VoIP or like @dcole13 says just attach an ATA. You can login to your HG659 as Admin and copy the VoIP settings across.

View HTML source to get VoIP password, not sure if it's encrypted though (mine shows as a numeric string however number's not active any more to test).

People get confused about PPPoE because spark uses it I think, and voda and orcon use vlan10

Thank you very much for that. I've kept a record of the VoIP password from when the HG659 got installed so that fortunately won't be a problem.
