What can I say. Wow. What a difference.

My initial speed tests this morning (Speedtest.net and speedtest.xport.co.nz) showed around 4Mbit down and 137kbit up. Up from around 2.1Mbit Down and 120kbit up on Woosh.

Quickly downloaded a couple of files and easily got a transfer rate of 150KB/s up from 20-25KB/s on Woosh.

Only downside that I have noticed, which I failed to take into account before the changeover, is that Xnet don't allow me to use my own external SMTP server, which may be an issue as my domain has an SPF record which may mean that alot of mail servers will now treat my outgoing mail as SPAM. Apparently they will remove this restriction if I sign up for a static IP, which I may end up having to do.

Also, now that I am on a better connection I feel it is a good time to give the G729a codec another go for my VFX. Perhaps if someone from WxC reads this they can arrange for me.

That sounds really good! (Not as good as ulaw but more stable) Definately better than when I was on Woosh. Jitter is around 0-2ms and decode latency at 50ms. No packets lost! Woohoo!

Many hosting providers offer an alternative port for their SMTP server, so check that out to overcome the port 25 blocking thing.
