Hi VFX users.

Has anyone had much success tweaking the QoS settings on a Linksys WAG54GP2v2? I have one causing a bit of voice breakup on the downstream during a VFX call whilst other Internet activity is going on in the background. This is also connected to a I think a rather congested Telecom exchange, so that too may be an issue. The upstream seems fine, this is apparent with a significant drop off in upload speed doing a speed test during a VFX call.
Any suggestions on adjusting QoS settings, or maybe some tweaks the WxC guys can do to the VFX configs would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Fraser

Hi Fraser,

No settings that you change via the HTML interface will make QOS work any better in relation to SIP/VOIP - the QOS settings for SIP/VOIP are built into the device.

I'd have to point towards the congested exchange being the main culprit. I've seen a lot of cases recently or latency spiking quite dramatically during peak times.  I'm not sure how much testing has been done but you may want to run a MTR when making the call.

WinMTR - http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/winmtr_bin.zip  - Just MTR to something local (www.xnet.co.nz) during the evening/peak periods and see if you get many latency spikes.

Thanks
Cameron

So on the face of it, the DSL showed no real issues (no VFX call) only slight latency spikes. Speed tests were fine too. It's just once it gets overloaded with incomming data it all seems to go wrong.

Fraser,

If you can phone into Customer Care with the customer details or even PM them to Cameron , he can do a check we may know what this will be and see if we can get it improved.

I hope to get back to troubleshooting this again over the weekend and will do a factory reset. Is there a way to do a full factory reset on these? I'm quite sure last time I tried this, it did not wipe the VFX config. Does it need a special VFX config to enable a full factory reset? Perhaps you can post or PM me the info required to do this.

Thanks

If you hold the reset button in for 30 seconds + it should reset the ADSL & Voice settings - a full reset.

Have now tried this, but no it did not reset the VFX side.

Odd the device is a WAG54GP2v2?  I don't think any of those devices have been fully locked (only some PAP2T's) to the VFX network so the 30 second reset should work.

It could be a faulty device,

Hmmm, this could be it then, as the QoS still seems not to being doing its job.
