I have a HTC One m7 bought in a vodafone shop last year and running on a vodafone plan (swapped SIM from HTC one X which smashed on 24 month plan which hadnt expired)

Yesterday, the phone said it had an update and downloaded it ?4.4.3

But when I try to install the update, it stops during bootup and displays a message saying

First line had **** TAMPERED ****
then             *** LOCKED ***
then             *** Security Warning ***
then             M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
then             HBOOT-1.57 0000
then            RADIO-AT.27.3218.14
then            OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
then            OS-5.11.980.9
then            eMMc-boot 2048 MB
then            April 23 2014, 15:33:47.0

then FASTBOOT highlighted and options for BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER, POWER DOWN.

I have never seen this menu before nor played with any other OS's or rooted etc.
All my apps with the exception of one (Sonos beta program) were installed from the google app store. (No fancy fidling with options)

Other than trying a factory reset and trying to download the update again, what should I do ?

A.

Easiest way would be to take it into the store - the last thing you want to do is fiddle with the updating process and brick it.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.
