Unless there is a cable outage in Strathmore Wellington, I have some cable issues.

I only noticed this problem after rebooting my router last night, it is possible that the cable was already dead and the two aren't related.

Last night I restarted my router due to connectivity issues between devices and when it came back up, my laptop wirelessly connected to the router but with the yellow limited icon [no internet connection] I checked two other WiFi enabled devices [Netbook & phone] which showed the same limited connection.  I used an Ethernet cable for a wired which had the same result, connected but without any data throughput.

I factory reset the router and set it up again, no change.
I restarted the cable modem which came back up with all lights on solid green and link light flashing green but no data throughput.  connected an Ethernet cable from the laptop directly into the cable-modem which showed an orange link light but no data throughput.

Currently it is set up modem linked to router and all lights indicate that I should have an internet connection but there is nothing.  Has anyone had a similar issue?

What I have tried
Reset the router to factory defaults. All lights indicate service. WiFi and LAN cable connect but no data throughput.
Reset the Cable-modem using the recessed button.  All lights come on to say I am connected and online but no data throughput either directly or through the router.
Tried a different WiFi router. Exactly the same symptoms as supplied one, so I am confident that the router is not at fault.

As all the lights are illuminated on the cable-modem, I assume that there is no physical issue with the cabling.

Only installed on Thursday, I hope this isn't a regular occurrence.

Suggest calling Vodafone and asking for a technician. You will be asked to restart the modem and router during the call, even if you tell them you've already done it...

No issues with cable here (also in Strathmore). As MF stated, best to log a fault to get it looked at.

Thanks guys, I guess I will have to bite the bullet and brave the VF hold queue, and since I can't really take any more short-notice time off for technician visits, so I could be sans-broadband until the weekend. Great :(

Have you definitely loaded the correct IP and subnet into your router while reconfiguring it after the reset?

No, I didn't but would I normally have to as it is just a router for the cable modem?  I never had to re-enter anything with the previous ADSL modem/router when I factory reset it.

IP and subnet aside, the no-data issue occurred after just an off/on reboot of the modem as opposed a factory reset.

I will look into it though.

Ah... YES YOU MUST USE THE IP allocated to your box. It is different from DSL technologies.

And you must use the proper DNS --- 203.97.78.43 --- 203.97.78.44

Thanks, I will try when I get home.

I am still confused as to why it died before I did anything and why it never resumed after restarting [not resetting] all of the equipment.

I factory reset the router and set it up again, no change.

When you reset the router by pushing the button it will have lost your IP settings.  So when you say you set it up again did you again enter (into the router not modem)

IP address
Gateway IP Address
Subnet mask
Name servers

EDIT: Just saw Sbiddle has pointed this out.  When resetting the router in the future I would pull power rather than pushing factory reset.

Also, when you plug your PC directly into the modem for testing you also need to enter the settings that itxtme has given above into your laptop.

Thanks everyone.
Tweeted VF and got my IP details PM'd to me. Will have a crack at it tonight.

They are so much faster on Twitter than calling or emailing :o)

Cheers, reset was last resort after a reboot.

Hopefully get it all running this evening.
