Does anyone know if vodafone have done the right thing and now provide authenticated SMTP on a port other than 25 for @clear.net.nz users?
Or are they still telling people to use their own isp smtp servers?

AFAIK this hasnt changed. I migrated a clearnet client a few months ago due to the lack of authenticated SMTP from clearnet - they had put up for it for years constantly changing SMTP server between paid US offerings and whatever isp they were connected to or what ever SMTP server they werent restricted from using where they were connected at the time.

From memory you could pay clear for a service called "remote mail"?? and I regstered for this at one stage but it didnt work.

Setup a forward from clear to gmail and migrate them to gmail.
