At approx 14:45 Hours Telecom suffered a major outage with a couple of the Interconnect switches in Auckland, this would have effected any customer dialing a Auckland Number, Vodafone Mobiles and all Auckland VFX numbers.

The problem appears to be ongoing at 15:20 it did come back online for approx 20 minutes but at 15:40 has dropped again we have a notification of the issue from Telecom but not yet a clearance or reason for the problem.

Issue appears to be fixed , Network has been stable from approx 15:50

Thanks Phil for the heads-up. Quick announcements like this are invaluable and really appreciated!

I'm looking forward to hearing Telecom's explanation . . .

Once again great notifications posted on Geekzone.  Phil, how about on the WxC/XNet/VFX web site you refer people to this forum just like you refer people to useful software?

Yes, it is on the home page.  But my suggestion was to add a link to Geekzone on this page:
http://www.xnet.co.nz/support/support_apps.shtml
I believe this is a very useful forum, and gives more info than the network status banner on the home page.

My partner reports she was getting the 'Congestion' warning when trying to call me on my VFX line from her work in the CBD (a Telecom landline) earlier this morning, around 8:30am (Monday September 3rd) - congestion warning. Same again? She got through successfully at 9:40.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

We are not aware of any issues, just checking we see only a single call to your number at 9:37 for 2Minutes 15 Secs no other call attempts, so possibly there may have been an issue somewhere but we have not been informed about one. That message does generally suggest an issue as there are no issues with capicity here

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Quick on to the case as usual, I see :)

It may have been a one-off, but she said she tried to call twice when she got the congestion/overloading message. The number is listed as being off the Airedale St exchange.

*shrug* must've been a gremlin I guess

Thanks for having a look :)

This morning I received this company wide e-mail at work, thought it to be strange that WxC did not report anything.  Received the message at 9:20, and was said to be up again at 1:40.

"We have been advised that there is a fault in the Auckland telephone network that may be affecting both inbound and outbound calls.

Certain numbers when dialled are not connecting and instead a recorded message will be heard stating that the call cannot be completed due to overloading.

At this stage there is no information about when this fault will be fixed."
