Yes, you simply add the ported number as an additional line and keep your existing 950 xxxx number as is. This assumes you have a spare VoIP port available on your VFX device of course.

But could I have 2 numbers coming in to one line on my VFX and just have one line going out.

Technically yes, you'd just need to login to the voice portal thing and setup diversion on one number to forward to the other. But, unless you have a two port device, WxC may not let you do this.

So the answer is yes, but you effectively have to rent 2 VFX lines and forward one number to the other.

This too is an option WxC have been looking in to. An example is if someone wants an out of town number for incoming calls, e.g. your are in Auckland, but you also want a Wellington number. You would have an Auckland VFX number working as normal, but you would also have a "virtual" Wellington number that terminates on your Auckland number. All outbound calls would go out as an Auckland number (so it won't affect NAD rules). WxC have not given any eta or price for this yet, but would probably be same or less than cost for 2nd VFX line. I can't see any reason why you could not have the "virtual" number in the same area as your local number.
In the mean time, as mentioned 2 VFX lines and use call diversion.
