Having had some major problems with Telecom over the last few weeks (well years really but thats another story and we have all heard them before) and great success with trialing HSI and VFX, I am looking to changing over our domestic and business lines to VFX and naked DSL.  I know naked DSL is a few months away but want to be primed and ready to ditch Telecom as soon as I can.

I currently have HSI FS/FS via WAG54GP2 being used for 2 x VOIP lines and LAN internet access which works fine.

I am looking at having a total of 4-5 VFX/VOIP lines and internet via HSI.  The question is even with upstream QOS on the WAG, am I liable to have VFX dropout issues with the internet and phone lines being used at the same time.

Am I better to have a second HSI service just used for VOIP to give the best call quality?  If so, do I need FS/FS for 4 lines or would a 256k/128k work just as well?

Cheers guys for all your help and great service

Andy

You can work on this as a Bandwidth Budget average for the Linksys devices

G729
110 kbps for 2 concurrent Calls    27.5 kbps up 27.5 kbps down per call
220 kbps for 4 concurrent Calls

G711
220 kbps for 2 concurrent Calls    55 kbps up 55 kbps down per call
440 kbps for 4 concurrent Calls

So there may be issues with 4 calls up at the higher codecs or with a FS / 128 plan

Which coded does VFX use, 729 or 711?  I can't tell from looking at the WAG.  Or is this an option you will be offering shortly?

Cheers

Generally by default it will be G729 however there may be occurances of G711 when the far end will only support that codec
