I'm trying to get a fallback 3G connection working for a relative who has dodgy (weather-sensitive) neighbourhood phone wiring intefering with his ADSL that Chorus can't seem to do anything about (Te Atatu South, in a black hole surrounded by areas in line for UFB but not getting it here anytime soon).

He's a WXC customer who just got an MP264 box.

Is there a way to get the MP264 to talk to the current generation 3G USB sticks that present themselves as a virtual Ethernet device? It doesn't recognise the 2degrees HiLink 21.6Mbps modem I'm trying to use.

I'm hoping not to have to add another router in-between if at all possible.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks Maverick. I'll see if I can dig up an older first gen 3G modem of mine to swap, I have a 3.6Mpbs one gathering dust at home - that should work, right?

Is this still on the roadmap to happen sometime in future?

That's a shame. Any advance on HD-Voice for these yet?

Ok I've got around the original issue (MP264 won't talk to a 3G modem directly) but have hit a new one.

I'm using a 3G gateway plugged into the Ethernet WAN port on the MP264 - but when I do this, the DSL connection becomes permanently disabled, requiring the 3G router to be unplugged and DSL to be manually enabled to get it to go again. Needs to be done by going into the MP264's settings each time, a reboot won't re-enable the DSL conneciton.

I presume the logic behind this is that an internet route out on the WAN port must be UFB and therefore we don't need DSL anymore, ever ... is there any way around this without needing a third router?
