I'm Awaiting my Fibre install on Tuesday. I received the Hg659 already and I thought i'll replace my ancient Asus WL 600G and have it plugged in and setup the wifi  etc on my existing account while I count the hours ;) . However I see it comes set by default to VDSL and gives "cable error 8180" I can't just plug in and continue via my ADSL2+ with the new router.

So what I need to know is where and how to disable to VDSL default and get my existing Adsl2+ up and running with the new router.

I'm it is possible as I remember doing it before in the past, but it's been a while and my HG659 is lying dormant right now...

I'll try pull something up to see if I can help you out..

After a factory reset the wizard didn't help auto select ADSL as a access type?

I've not factory reset it, but iv'e since found the other advanced admin login for the unit which might have away to enable the DSL.. Not tried as yet..

Interesting I can see the line sync of this router for adsl2+ is at 20 MBITS, vs 17 on my ancient router..

This can be done easily once you logged in as admin.

But why bother?

So I can tidy up in here and put the old router in the bin, and set up my other devices on the new one. A few devices also need passwords tweaked

WPA pre shared key on the old router was happy with a 7 character key. The new one is demanding 8 minimum.

Old router didn't even have 5 GHZ
