Hi all!

I'll be coming back to NZ soon, and hey, the new plans seem really attractive!

Problem is though, I definitely want to keep my Prepay number. Since there is no option now to easily bring my Prepay number directly to Plan......

Is there any way of bringing my number over then??? Maybe via Telecom? Suggestions for the cheapest way of doing this???

Thanks!!!

You can't move a Vodafone number from prepay to account or vica versa.

If you want to keep your number and move to a plan your only option is to port it to Telecom.

Thanks sbiddle...

And after I brought my number to Telecom for a month or so, can I bring it over back to Vodafone PLAN?

I stand corrected. I've just been told that apparently it is possible to port a Vodafone prepay number to Telecom it can be ported back to Vodafone on Account. You can't move back to Vodafone prepay however.

Hey, thanks for all the info sbiddle.....

I guess in a week (when I return), I'll.....

#1:  Buy a Telecom mobile on Trademe (any old one will work, right?)

#2:  Hook that up on a Telecom Account Plan / Prepaid for a month (bringing my 021 1539xxx number over)

#3:  1 month later, bring that to Vodafone "Mega" Plan....

#4:  Sell the telecom mobile back on Trademe....

That'll work eh?

Mmm, according to cranz you cannot do this, althrough I'm not sure how cluded up he /she is on this (no offence intended).

cranz: You can not do that either Mikal, a Vodafone Prepay Number ported to Telecom (PP or OA) can only be ported back to Vodafone Prepay. But this is now getting off topic.

i wasn't going to get all argumentative in the thread but after going back to numerous stores they all hesitantly said yes.
They didn't want to sound like they were implying any sought of 'workarounds' of the VF system, otherwise they might get a slap on the wrist.
I wanna see someone on this forum try it please.

Hmm interesting you should single out my opinion when others have stated this also.

All the information I have points to No, but if it did work it would be one hell of a work around. Innocent

I think I'll step back from this thread

Sorry for singling you out, I only quoted you as I just remembered you saying it.

And I think I'll follow your lead and step back from this thread.

Rather than buy a phone on trade-me that may be marked as lost, stolen or insurance by Telecom, and therefore unable to be activated, how about ask you friends for an old one...  (for free, of course!)  Also, Ring Vodafone customer service and ask if you can port a Telecom prepaid number to a Vodafone account.  If you port your Vodafone number to Telecom, surely it then 'belongs' to Telecom?  Plus, if you get stuck with Telecom, it may not be that bad?  You can go onto an account from prepaid...

IMPORTANT.. you need a number portable handset or they may not connect it!

NOK2855 NOK2865 NOK6165 SAMw531 SAN7050 SAN8400 SANSM1 are the ones I know will work.

I would love to know if someona can do the prepay hack, I should have disconned my 021 mobile totally and tried it to upgrade to MEGA.

It cant be done, the port back to vodafone will end up on prepay after a lot of messing around by incompetent shop staff who don't know their own systems.

I know someone that went VF-PP to telecom flexi, only to want to move back after seeing how poorly the handsets handle MMS's and having issues with their CBD coverage. Ended up back on VF-PP with some amount of credit to cover the many many visits to the shop

Good luck trying that folks. You seem to forget that these days if you get on account you have to sign at least 12 month contract. And paying dearer to get out of it earlier.... How would you port back to Vodafone in one month?

Port it from Vodafone PREPAY to Telecom prepaid Then sign it up on Motormouth (no contract) or Mega 12 months ($40 early termination penalty for mega) but it's not going to work anyway so better just wait.

Yes, Some Telecom Handsets are absolute shockers at MMS, I have a phone general guide as an up and coming blog.

6235, 6255, 6155 and 6265 are very good on TNZ MMS as they use an actual MMS client and handle the standard SMIL so interacting to Vodafone works well. Newer Nokias are not so glamourous. 6275 is especially bad..

The remaining brands use this awful "Lightsurf" web-portal thing and the older nokias are just horrible,

Right guys, leave it up to me!

Since it "theoritically works", I'll give it a try......

#1:  Hope to get a cheap telecom mobile (number portability enabled), failing that, I'll buy a Nokia 2865....

#2:  Go on Telecom Prepaid, or a Anytime Plan, both of which have no contract terms...

#3:  Use Telecom for a month, and then swap to Vodafone On Account "Mega Plan"....

Fingers crossed it all goes well!  I'll try it in a week or so....  Meanwhile in Hong Kong, I'll enjoy Tech heaven....

I'd seriously avoid the 2855, Horrid Display and joystick in these. though I should try and replace the horrible display with a new one from a busted 6155

better off buying the 6165 which has GPS, a decent screen and a camera, You should get a good sale price for it too.
