For the experts, I think i tried everything I can to resolve the issue I am havign so can be a challenging one for you.

I recently joined Telstra and got there Cable internet. I used to be with telecom and had a wireless network running fine.

I used Telecoms, standard modem and connected this to my DLink Wireless Router DI-624+. I use Windows Vista.

I am now trying to set this same Wirless router up with the Motorola Surfboard that TCL installs.

I have no issues when the Cable modem is connected directly to my PC. But when I put my Router in between i dont get the internet to work.

I have done the following :

1. Reset the Wireless router.
2. gave it the Static IP TLC provides. (on the WAN via the Web interface)
3. Gave it the Subnet Mask and DNS (On the WAN)
4. Enabled DHCP
5. Changed my PC network settings to Automatic retrieve the lot.
6. Reset both modems left them off for at least 10 minutes each.
7 Tried this several times.
8. Was unsure about the LAN settings on the Dlink routerbut tried both giving it TLC's IP (which i think is wrong) and gave it the default one that comes with the router.

From the PC I can ping the Router and get access via the Web interface but no internet. At this point i am not even trying to get the wireless going, but just the internet on the PC to work. I rebooted everything as well. I made triple sure I typed in everything correctly as well. When connecting the Cable modem back to the PC and re-entering the Network settings on the PC its all working. All the lights are flashign as if it should be working. When I think I have set it all up correctly and use Vista's diagnosing tools it comes up that there could be a DNS issue, but I wouldnt know what to do to fix this.

The only other thing I think it could be is that TLC maybe remembers the MAC address and when this changes it takes a while to clear this or something like that?

I am currently waiting for Telstra to answer but the average waiting time is 62 minutes and I have been waiting for 37 minutes so I guess this will be faster, :-)
Any ideas what else there is to try to get this to work, am i missing something obvious?

I have recently set up a friend's connection with DI-624UP and had no problem. Try reset to factory settings and update firmware it any. and use the built-in web wizard to setup again.

And you don't need to clone the MAC or anything as TCL doesn't look at your PC/Router's MAC, it checks the modem's MAC only.

As for getting help from TCL, don't expect them to give you any guidance on how to set up your router as it is not what they the connection they support.

The web wizard setup is very easy, just enter what you need for the WAN (as provided by TCL) and you should be fine.

Does the router give the option to copy the mac address of the PC the cable modem was set up with?

If so, try putting in the MAC address TCL set up with the cable modem... a long shot, but I did the same with my Linksys WRT54GS and had no problems.

Well after all that the internet is workign fine, but now the Xbox 360 doesnt connect although it can see the network. Aperently some compatibility issues that Microsoft and Dlink are denying. will start a new question in the right area for this. Gutted

There is defintiely something to this. Last night I tried to install DD-WRT on my WRT54GL but ended up going back to the LinkSys firmware. Obviously this involved lots of resets, reboots etc and when all was said and done, I could not access the internet UNTIL I enabled MAC cloning.

I don't know enough about this to have any idea why this would be the case, but for me right now that's the reality.

You guys are my new heroes... A week spent pulling my hair out trying to figure why my Linksys router would not connect to Telstra Clear... finally I find this website and read this thread... 2 minutes later I have a cloned MAC address and am online.

Thanks heaps guys :)
