I'm currently on the VF VDSL + home phone 80GB plan, which has generally been enough, sometimes overrunning by 5-10GB at the end of the month but at $1 per GB not worth changing to unlimited.

However, with both kids getting tablets around Christmas, relative staying with us and having started to use Netflix recently (as well as existing BBC use) I'm close to blowing my data allowance and it's only a third way through the month.  Previously I've been able to "double my data" for $20, but this is no longer available.  I've also previously been able (not sure if this was VF because I change ISPs every few years) to change plans mid-month and get the extra data allowance immediately.  With the current contract, all I seem able to do is to upgrade from the start of Feb (done) and wait for a large bill to arrive.

Any suggestions?  Is there any way VF will allow me to buy another chunk of data or get an immediate upgrade to unlimited?  I've logged a call with customer service but anecdotes on this forum mean I'm not holding my breath for a helpful response.

You can't purchase extra data blocks on the latest plans, Sounds like you need to move to unlimited

You can be moved to unlimited straight away and the following invoice will be prorated, You need to call to have this change made you can't do it online

That sounds rather archaic. Sounds like you need a new ISP.

I'm on contract until early Feb.  VF was the best value when I moved to VDSL a year ago, partly due to their Sky TV package.  We no longer have Sky and I think VF's unlimited prices will be $10 or so more than Spark's from 1st Feb so a move is likely

Not really. Why double your data for $20 when you can just upgrade to unlimited for $20

The good thing about double data was it was a one-off, so if you were running out, or felt like torrenting a whole bunch of Linux iso files, it would tide you over to the end of the month.

Well, I phoned VF at lunch time and apart from the wait to be answered (27 minutes), it was all handled in a very friendly and professional way and I am now on unlimited

Thanks John and VF

Just check when your first unlimited bill comes in that you are not charged for exceeding 80GB like I was. Because part of the month was on the 80GB plan I was charged for usage over that during the month when I had not exceeded 80GB on the date I changed plans. A long wait on the phone was needed to sort it out.
