My yearly contract with TelstraClear/Vodafone finished a few days ago. I contacted Vodafone and asked that the new contract would be the same as the old. The lass I spoke too said that wouldn't be a problem and everything would just carry on a before.

Yesterday I received a call from Vodafone telling me that I needed to make an appointment for a serviceperson to call and install a new modem. I explained to the lass that my Internet service would remain the same as before (cable, 80Gb, 15/2) but she insisted that I needed a new modem for the increase in speed.

Looking at the Vodafone web site I can't see a cable 80gb, 15up 2down option so I'm now a little bit concerned that Vodafone has put me on a different plan. The present modem is a Motorola surfboard cable modem SB5100.

Do you mean 15/2 or 50/2?  They both sound the same over the phone.

I have cable 50/2 with a Cisco DPC3008 modem.

Your new plan is probably 80gb 50/2. If you have the motorola surfboard modem it will need to be changed to a new cisco DPC-3008

Assuming that you're on cable 50/2 (50 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up) then you do need to upgrade "your" modem.

Strictly speaking, the modem belongs to Vodafone as part of their cable network - and can be replaced at their discretion - and the router belongs to you. smile

okay if the modem is theirs, just watch they dont lock you into another year contract. "Since they had to do a site visit..." get an email confirming things and make things clear.

Thanks everyone, it would appear from the replies that I've been changed to a new plan. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that the price doesn't rise too much:-)

Reading through this thread I think everyone has gotten a little confused, including the VF operator.

From the look of things, the OP has come out of contract and then rung VF to make sure things would remain as they were and been told that should be ok.

Best guess from the OP getting a phone call is that they have been bumped to a current 80Gb plan which will be 50/2 at a minimum as that is the slowest/smallest that VF offer on cable now. The OP has stated they wanted no change but appear to have got it anyway.

If I were you,  Iceni, I would call VF and check exactly what they have done because it looks like you have been put on a new contract on the current 80Gb plan. I don't know what you are currently paying but I would check it against VF's current offerings, it may be be cheaper just to take the upgrade. I have no idea what you are paying so I can't comment on that.
