On behalf of my wife... can you please stop sending pointless, annoying text messages, or at least tell people how to opt out. She's suggests firing the fool in marketing who thinks this is a good idea and reducing her phone bill as a result.

Apparently you can opt out with your online account. Last one I got sent me through the roof - asking me to check out a Samsung phone which I do not want or care about

Postpay. I'll suggest my wife look online to opt out, but having to opt out of spam from your carrier isn't really on.

You can forward text it to 7726
Which alerts the department of internal affairs

In my opinion, they are counter productive - from Vodafones perspective - driving away customers, rather than encouraging customers to use more of their services. I always think of the poor night worker, who sleeps during the day, only to be woken by some pointless Vodafone TXT!

For me, this is a real sticking point and I would change operator to avoid them.

Really, they should be an "Opt in" type service - and then see how many customers actually opt in - not many I bet!

I managed to opt out by calling them and asking to no longer receive any marketing messages.

I found that because there is no "phone number" attached to these TXT's (Somehow they come from "Vodafone" without any actual number associated) I wasn't able to block the number (blacklist) within my own phone.

I am now with Skinny, and have managed to "opt out" of their equivalent, but at least their messages come from a real number (albeit a 4 digit one), hence if necessary, I could black list the number within my phone, but after requesting no to receive these type of TXT's they have all stopped.

One of the first things I do when changing operator, is to call the customer service and ask for all advertising and marketing messages to be stopped. Over the years I have been with 2 Degrees, Vodafone, Telecom and now Skinny, and they all stopped sending these type of TXT's once requested.

I had to block a shortcode because of spam that I didnt want to risk paying to send stop back to.

In any case, it also blocked some of the google SMS 2 factor texts since they dont seem to have a single service that they use for all of them. Just be aware of that with blocking a shortcode.

Youch... That's really a bad look.

I have a VF SIM (since my old car GPS tracker only works with their network) and I got some of the same type of messages which I found pretty offensive. JohnR was able to get them all turned off for me but I couldn't do it myself (They didn't respect the STOP code).

It's possible to get them turned off, but you might have to fight for it.

(BTW, I work in the fixed network space in Spark - so I don't know if we do the same sort of thing, but if we do, I still think it's a terrible idea to do it. (And it's made worse by the fact that the 'stop' doesn't work for all types of messages)

My last annoying VF spam was on friday:

"You   ve recently experienced new & improved Vodafone coverage. We hope you're enjoying it! Better mobile coverage & faster data speeds. See vodafone.co.nz/rura"

I was sitting in a cafe in Christchurch and had been in city area since returning from Christmas holidaze.

Any SMS for Prepay subscribers about addon's not renewing are held back till 8am and then sent onto subscribers mobile, The confusing bit here is if the customer tops up say 7:15am and the addon package renews then the SMS are released at 8am the subscriber gets an SMS advising the addon is now on-hold due to not enough credit to renew but customer topped up 7:15am

My wife wasn't complaining about the time of the text, just about the waste of her time and the cost of hiring the muppet who sent out pointless texts, increasing her bill slightly.
