In 2 1/2 weeks time, after some time away we are returning home from overseas. Feeling all organized and everything, I called today to set up the reconnection of our (cable) broadband+phone service. I was shocked to discover that despite calling ahead, I am still looking at spending a week or more without any services. I was told that a service call cannot be set up until the current tenants move out (which is the day before we arrive) and that there is a 5-8 business days (from that date) delay to get a technician to the property.

Why does this have to be so difficult? Surely VF can set up a service call now, 2 1/2 weeks in advance, despite another person occupying the property!

I spoke to multiple reps on the phone, some more competent than others... Nobody came up with a reasonable solution. Having to call long distance hasn't exactly made this easy...

Oh, how I wish fibre was coming sooner...

Are the other people disconnecting? Why not just get the connection changed into your name?

I suspect the tenants might want to simply move their services to a new address. Would this preclude the name-change option?

johnr, I gather by the lack of response, that if the tenants do want to move their service, my only option is to go a week without phone and internet?
